It felt like days before you guys reached the closest gates. People were lined up on the left, right, sticking their heads out of their Windows.

You shrank back a little and looked around, there was so many people watching, so many people whispering.

"Ignore them." Eren whispered.

You took a deep breath and nodded your head, arching your back and holding your head held high.

You were a scout, you should be proud!

Eyes flicking around the crowd, you spotted a young boy looking at you not far off. You offered him a small smile and a wave, and he gave you a shy one back.

"READY YOURSELVES!" Erwin's Voice reaches your ears.

Your gripped your reins tighter, listening to Erwin talk about the fate of humanity and such as the gates opened.

Then there was silence and he let out a battle cry and raced forward. Everyone followed him, splitting up into their respective groups, and just after you left the walls you found yourself in the middle on them all.

The groups weren't that far apart, you could still see everyone, but the further you guys rode out, the more the drifted.

"Remember to keep an eye out for titans, and smoke signals." Luke told you.

"Yeah... right..."

He offered you a smile and nodded his head, heading back to the front of your little group.

You guys were walking now, a cart in the middle of you all. All around was green fields, the sight made you smile. You've never been to any of the outer walls, you were lucky enough to be raised close to the centre.

"It's cool, isn't it?" Eren asked.

"Yeah it is. It's funny how something similar to inside the other walls seems so special once we reach outside."

"It's the thrill of being outside the safe zone. Everything looks better and wider. It untouched by humans for a good few years!"

"I suppose that'll be good for anything." You smiled.

"I bet there's still whole towns standing somewhere!"

You laughed at Eren enthusiasm, he'd been on many expeditions but he still got so excited about going out.

"It is awfully peaceful, is it not?"

"I agree, it is." You whispered.

You carried on looking around, there was evidence of titans being here for the large footprints imbedded in the dirt, and the occasional Titan skeleton far in the distance.

"Damn, if I didn't know any better I would have said someone's already been here." You laughed lightly.

"They're probably from old expeditions, this was a really popular spot to try reclaim about a year ago." Luke laughed back.

"Why is Erwin doing an expedition here? Aren't there more useful places to take back?"

Luke slowed his horse so he was riding next to you.

"Well, Yes. But the reason we're trying to reclaim this specific patch is because this part of the walls was mainly for farming. Although it wouldn't seem that important, if we can find how to titans got in, close it, we could reclaim a ton of farmland."

"I see, that makes sense."

Luke beamed and you and stuck his thumb up at you.

"The commander knows what he's doing!"

"The commander is a weirdo..." You snickered.

Luke laughed back and shook his head at you.

"I've seen you around, you seem like a fun person. You'll probably be on my squad for expeditions, so it'll be nice to know you more."

"Shorty says you shouldn't get to close to people."

"I suppose Levi is right, but you always want to know the people who have your life in theirs hands, right?"

You though about this, titling your head a little bit as you did.

"Yeah, you're right. If you don't know them you can't really trust them, can you?"

"Exactly. Plus is nice to know the people you serve with. Some people keep their distance so they don't get hurt."

You wondered if that's what Levi did. Truth be told, you didn't really know much about him, you knew he was from the underground. He was a clean freak. Stubborn. Grumpy. But not much about him as a person.

You didn't really know his likes and dislikes that well, or why he was so distant from everyone else. Part of you wondered if he'd been hurt before.

You were going to as him when you guys got back, because yes, you liked Levi. He was your anchor, but it was odd how someone able to pull you back from the brink of destroying everything didn't tell you anything about themselves.

You felt like you had to know, because he knew a lot about you in a way.

Humming lightly, your eyes glanced around in all directions, and that's when you seen it. Far ahead of you, a black smoke signal, and a little to the left and right of the it, two red ones
