You had honestly forgotten how long it had been since you had been gone from the scouts.
All you knew it that for roughly two or three weeks after freeing Otis, you spent pretty much every day training with him. There was so much to learn, but Otis said you were nearly there it was just about practicing.
"I'm not sure there's anything else I can teach you."
"Really?"
You were slightly disappointed, you enjoyed learning how to control your new found powers gifted from the demon.
"Unfortunately yes." Otis chuckled, "let's see your progress. Shadow ball."
You held out your hand, shadows instantly rushed towards your palms and swirled around creating a ball.
"Throw it at the target."
"Okay."
You nodded your head, turning around, you aimed your arm and threw the ball, shadows trailing it as it headed to the target.
It hit the body and seemed to do nothing making you feel a bit dejected. The ball just exploded into nothing.
"It's alright, you'll get there."
"Yeah."
You went to face Otis again but the target exploded, bits of it landing everywhere. Your mouth dropped open as did Otis'.
"How did you do that?" He asked.
You shook your head, facing him.
"I.. I don't know..."
Otis walked over, inspecting where the target once stood. Picking up a few parts before letting them fall into the floor again.
"Apparently you have more strength than we thought... I didn't think that was possible, a human to be stronger at a demon with his own attack."
"You can't do that?"
Otis shook his head, standing back up.
"No, mine simply just knocks the intended target over, yours quite literally destroys them."
You didn't know what to say so you stayed quiet.
"Let's see if it works with everything. Create a shield."
You held your hands up, shadows coming up before them, swirling in a constant motion as they protected you, surrounding your full body, leaving no space free and engulfing you in darkness.
"Wow..." Otis breathed.
You lowered your shield and watched Otis, he did the same but his only covered the front of him.
"If I didn't know better, I'd say you were an ancient demon." He chuckled.
You laughed as well and rubbed the back of your head with a smile.
"Maybe it's because I had a demon in me all my life. I probably just picked it all up or something."
"Maybe." He nodded.
Otis walked over to you and slung am arm over your shoulder as you both started to leave the training room.
The sun was getting low and it casted a golden light in the halls making you smile. It was a peaceful time, the times where you just felt at peace.
"You know, I sometimes forget that I'm a demon. Moments like this just make me feel so... human." Otis mused.
You smiled up at him, nudging his side with your head since his arm was wrapped around you still.
"I forget you are too. You look and act so human."
"I'm glad." He chuckled, "maybe I can be happy here."
You froze, your breath catching your your throat. Otis stopped with you and faced you, his face showing confusion clearly.
"Here? As in staying here?"
Otis nodded his head, giving you a small smile.
"I'm aware you want to return home, but, well, there's no home for me. This place is the closest place I can find to a home, full of demon much like myself and humans that accept us."
You stared at the ground, you didn't know what to do or say.
Otis walked closer and placed his hand on your head, pulling you into his chest as he wrapped his arms around you.
"I know it will hurt you, but I can't find myself anywhere else. I know you want to go home, but I'd like you to think about it too. You're the first human to accept me and befriend me, I don't want to loose you, but I understand you have a home and people you wish to return to. Just... think about it? Please?"
You meekly nodded your head, you were speechless you had no clue what to say. You just stood there with you head resting against Otis' chest. You weren't ready for this, you didn't know what to do, this wasn't the right time for it but you were at least thankful he told you, though torn
