Chaper 21

As you and Haden made your way back up the steps to the castle, you could see Lucy stood at the top patiently waiting.

"Thank you for coming, the Elder has agreed to speak with you."

"That's great, where can I find this elder?"

Lucy pointed to a slightly worn down path to the right.

"Follow the lights, they will guide you there. The elder resides between our world and theirs."

You nodded your head and started to head that way. As you reached the path you hesitated.

"Is it safe Otis?" You asked.

"Unfortunately I can't see into there. Proceed with great caution."

"Right."

Pushing be bushes back, you slipped in and stood there. Your eyes widened as you saw how dark it was. You could barely see a thing, yet it was just midday.

"This is the effect of a powerful demon. Only they have the ability to bend time and space like this."

"Should I turn back?" You whispered.

"It is up to you, but I recommend you keep going."

You stood there for a few moments, you debated on what to do. You could just turn back now and say you changed you mind, but something inside of you was saying to go forward.

Your body wanted to go forward, but your mind was stuck in limbo. Forward or backwards? Which was did you do?

So you debated this, something in the darkness shone brightly. Small lights appeared on both sides of the path, floating in the air. They shone bright enough that you could see around you, you were in some sort of forest, above you were archways.

The forest was silent, the only noise was your breath and the shuffling on your feet as you moved slightly.

You finally made up your mind and kept walk, slowly taking one step after another. The more steps you took, the more lights that appeared.

It felt weird not knowing where you were going, you were trusting some random floating orbs to tell you where you had to be.

Still, you kept moving, feet guiding you where you needed to be.

It had felt like you were walking hours when finally the lights seemed to stop. In front of you stood a large fire, it wasn't red though, it was a beautiful silver, it crackled and popped like any other fire did.

"Hello (Y/N), Otis." A soft voice spoke.

From around the fire walked a man who looked like he was in his mid 30s. He had long white hair that nearly reached the floor, silver eyes that seemed to glow and black markings all over his body.

"I am Nathanael."

"Nathanael..." Otis whispered.

"It's nice to see you again friend. It certainly has been a while."

Otis chuckled and agreed with the other demon. You walked a little closer, feeling comfort in the fact that Otis knee this demon.

"You've come to me seeking answers, haven't you?"

You nodded your head this time. You watched as Nathanael sat besides the fire and gestured to the spot in front of him.

"Please, sit."

Padding over, you slowly got down and sat on your knees, watching this demon carefully.

"What sort of demon are you?"

"I'm an ancient demon. Born well before Lucifer was, there are a handful of us around. I am the demon of Illusion, there is Mikami, she's the demon of light. Oscar, the demon of life and death. Jasmin, the demon of nature. Least of all, Lucan, the demon of darkness."

"So, there is five of you?"

"Indeed, of course there are many old demons. Many go are driven to insanity by immortality, others by power. Those demons are cast into the lowest depths of hell."

"Haden said there's no one guarding hell now, aren't they free?"

"No, they are unable to get out. Chained in the pits well below the surface. Unable to be free. But that is not why you're here."

Nathanael leant back on his hands and gazed up into the black sky above you.

"You're here because you want to know what's out there. What is more dangerous and terrifying to demons themselves."

Slowly he lowered his head, his eyes connecting with yours and they suddenly became dark. A large gust of wind swept through the area.

"Angels."
