Hands gripping Levi's cloak tightly, you took a breath. You were closing in to the others, and the reality of everything just kept getting worse and worse.
Why did the world have to be so messed up? Why did the titans have to appear?
Why were they so hell bent on destroying humanity.A sinking feeling was settling in your chest and you couldn't shake it. It was one of those feelings where you just somehow knew something was going to happen.
Taking a deep breath, you grabbed your blades and readied yourself.
"Keep yourself safe Levi, okay?"
You shot your wires before he could reply and you were gone.
This Titan was taller then the ones you previously took down, but you were still determined.
You were the only one on it though, there was another soldier running up the side with you.
"You take above I'll take below!" He yelled.
"Got you!"
When your foot reached the titans shoulder, you used all your natural strength to shoot yourself around and shot a wire into the middle of the neck.
Below you the other soldier shot his just under yours, and in a swift movement the pair of you sliced, once you reached the end the Titan began to drop and you moved on.
It was a shit show, people yelling and flying through the air.
It was an absolute mess.
But you pushed on, moving from one Titan to another.
While fighting, your eyes passed Erwin zipping the opposite direction to you, and a smile spread across your face.
He was okay, and by the looks of it so were all your friends.
Although some seemed injured, no one seemed to be mortally wounded and it made you feel better.
You carried on helping people fight the titans, moving from one to another as quickly as you could.
For what seemed like ages you were fighting, but finally it all died down. The last Titan fell and you all stood there checking your gas, blades and catching your breath.
A loud bang was heard and your heads snapped to the sky. A yellow flare was shot into the sky by Erwin.
"Wise choice." Hanji commented next to you.
Looking at her, she beamed brightly at you.
"That was so fun wasn't it?!"
"You're insane Hanji, but I admit it was a little fun in a way."
She cheered and hugged you tightly.
People were whistling and gathering up any horses they could find. Some people with a few more serious injures climbed into the carts while others jumped onto spare horses.
A few people had to share one since not all the of the horses could be found, and you were one of them people.
A pure black horse made its way over to you, and a hand reached down.
Levi didn't say anything as you took his hand, he pulled you up behind him.
"Hold on." Was all he said.
So you did, you wrapped your arms around his waist as he made his way to the front of the group that was slowly making their way back to the wall.
"You're okay." Erwin breathed, seeing you behind Levi.
"Yeah, I'm okay." You nodded, "so are you."
He smiled and nodded his head. Many people were talking and looking around, you were only a few hours out from the walls.
Although you were meant to be back in a few days, Erwin for some reason decide it was best to go back now.
"Why are we heading back?" You asked.
"There's no way we're going to find where they're coming from. We don't have enough manpower or gear for it, those titans must have made their way in today because it was clear yesterday. We'll find the hole from on top of the walls."
You nodded your head in understanding and turned away.
Without a word you placed your head on Levi's back, closing your eyes. Tuning your sense to what was going on around you.
"What are you doing?" Erwin asked.
"Listening, I've been training with Otis. If I concentrate, I can hear for a good few miles. So I can hear if there's anything around us."
"Do you hear anything?" Levi asked next.
"No."
You went back to listening, birds chirped, the sound of animals walking somewhere nearby. Rushing water, wind rustling the leaves of the trees.
It was peaceful, you'd never heard so much peace at once.
Though, it was soon interrupted by the faint pounding of feet.
"Otis?" You questioned.
Though you could head, he'd be able to pick up on it better. The pair of you quickly swapped places.
"There's a horde of those beasts coming from behind, I mean, a lot."
"HURRY! THEY'RE CLOSING IN! THOSE WITH THE MOST GAS AT THE BACK AND SIDES!"
You and Otis quickly swapped again, you taking back your rightful place.
A heavy smell of metal filled your nose, metal and decay. It made you cough.
"It reeks..." you muttered.
"What?" Levi grumbled.
"It... smells. Something around here really stinks."
"That's the stench of death. It's coming from more than half your group."
Your heart slowed, everything around you seemed to slow down.
Taking another deep breath, you could smell it right next to you. Erwin, Christa and Connie were the only ones who reeked of it.
"No..." you whispered
