Chapter 20

Kaden led you down from the castle, entering a small market place. Many people waved and smiled at the pair of you.

People were talking, looking at things and you noticed that they would put them in a basket and walk away without paying.

"Hey she's stealing!"

"No. There is no currency here."

"So you can just take things?"

Kaden nodded and carried on walking. Kids would run between you, some appeared human while others had a more demon like appearance with bright eyes, some had horns while others had tails or wings.

"Demon children?"

"Yes. They are the offspring of two demons or a demon and a human."

"How come they don't look like the adult demons? They have tails and stuff."

"We all have them. Adults can hide them."

You slowly nodded your head, inside you could feel Otis stirring.

"Where are we?"

"Let me fill you in."

While you followed Kaden, you listened to everything he said and explained what had gone on since you woke up.

Otis took a few minutes to reply.

"So we're in a place full of humans and demons?"

"Basically, yeah."

"And there's a way to free me but it's dangerous?"

"Yeah."

"Don't do it."

You stopped walking, quickly realising you were being left behind you jogged to catch up.

"You want to be free, this is your chance."

"Not at the cost of your life."

You sighed softly and shook your head.

"Let's at least learn more about it, okay?"

"Fine."

You were relived he at least agreed to go ahead with it. However getting him to change his mind was a whole different story for sure.

The place was huge, there where large poles at the end of different streets with directions on them telling you how to find different things.

The place was vibrant and full of life, not how you expected a place full of demons to look like. It was as if the world didn't exist to the people here.

"Feel free to explore."Kaden sighed.

You shook your head at him, turning to face the tall demon.

"No, I need to head back. I still have questions."

"All work no play." He replied.

You simply just shrugged with a small smile.

"I suppose I just like to get things done."

Kaden gave you a small smile.

"I can see, it is a good trait."

"Thanks."

He gestured you to walk ahead and you did, trying to remember your way back to the castle. It was easier said than done, but all you had to do was look up at the hill and see if it was getting closer or further away.

"Tell me about yourself Kaden."

"Why?"

"You're the third demon I've met, I'm curious."

"Third?"

You nodded your head, thinking back to Ori and the village. You shivered and sadness washed upon you.

"I can see it's a touchy subject, I will not ask anymore on it."

"Thanks..."

"I'm the demon of Strategies and intelligence. Some say the smartest of all the demons, although certainly not the strongest. I used to be Lucifers right hand man."

"Lucifer?"

Kaden nodded his head and took a seat on a bench. You walked over and sat next to him, just watching everything around you.

"Yes, he was be ruler of hell. He disappeared many years ago, it is why many demons are up here. They saw a chance to escape and took it. Like myself. Some come for peace, a few come for chaos."

"Weren't demons allowed to come up anyways?"

Kaden shook his head.

"No, we were strictly forbidden to come up to the surface. It was guarded you, but with Lucifers disappearance, the guards also left."

"It's like a free for all then? Those who want to come up and and those that don't stay?"

"In a way, yes."

You nodded your head, the history was getting getting even more and more confusing. But it was giving you answers and explaining so much to you.

"I see, thanks for explaining."

"Anytime. Now come, Lucy is calling."

You went to ask how he knew, but he beat you to it.

"I can hear when she needs me or summons me. Much like Otis would for if you choose to stay connected."

You opened your mouth but closed it, no more questions. Right now it's time to see what Lucy has to say
