Two weeks passed and you never had another dream like that. So you put it to a one time things.
The reality of expedition had closed it, you would be leaving tomorrow morning and you didn't know what to do.
You had been given the day to relax and prep your things, but you just sat in your room, starting at your gear.
"Don't be worried."
"How can I not be? I've only just come to terms it's how real this is..."
"Have faith, like your commander said. There were good chances it was going to be a quiet mission."
You nodded your head and stood up, there was one thing you wanted to do before you carried on with checking your things.
You wouldn't be able to see Levi or Erwin before the expedition, so you went on a search for them now.
Erwin's office was your first stop. You pushed his door open and slipped in, finding him sat at his desk.
"(Y/N)?"
You turnt around and stood there awkwardly. You didn't really think this through, you had absolutely no idea what to do, or what you wanted to say to him.
You opened your mouth but quickly closed it again.
Erwin sighed and gestured for you to come closer so you did, and he met you half way, wrapping his arm around you while you rested your head under his chin.
"You're worried about the expedition tomorrow, aren't you?"
You meekly nodded your head, and he held you a little tighter.
"What if something happens to you.. or.. or someone else..."
"Unfortunately that might happen. It's something you always have to be prepared for."
"I don't want to lose anyone..."
"Then be the best soldier you can be, and protect your squad to the best of your abilities."
"Yeah.."
You sighed this time, closing your eyes as you stood there.
"Erwin...?"
"Yes?"
"I love you... I never said it before... but you're like my dad... you're the most special person to me.."
"Even before Levi?" He teased lightly.
You laughed a little and nodded your head.
"Even before Levi, you're my family."
"Well then, it's my pleasure to say I've always seen you as my daughter. I've watched you grow up so much, you've become so strong and you've never given up. I'm really proud of you sweetheart."
Tears clouded your eyes and you liked even more, hugging Erwin tightly. It was like part of the weight on your shoulders had been lifted. You've always wanted to tell Erwin how you felt, but you were always too scared to.
"Thanks Erwin..." you whispered.
Erwin smiled and pulled away, he walked to his desk and picked up a small box before walking back over. He must have seen you confused expression because he laughed and held the box out to you.
"I got this for your birthday, I was supposed to give it you on the day. But we were away, I only remembered today."
You glanced between him and the box before carefully removing the lid.
Tears sprung from your eyes, it was a beautiful green pendant like the one he often wore, made into a necklace.
"I have two, so I got this one made for you."
Erwin walked over and picked it up, walking around you, he placed it around your neck. The pendant hung just below your collarbone.
Frantically wiping your tears away, you spun around and hugged him tightly, crying softly into his shirt.
"Now if anything happens, you can remember me.." he whispered.
"Thank you so much..."
The thought of something happening to him made you hurt, but knowing you had something like that made it slightly better. Now, no matter where you were, you had something to remind you of him.
Erwin Smith, your unofficial Father and you loved him
