Levi knocked on Erwin's door before walking in, letting it close by itself as he marched up to the desk.

Erwin lifted his head from the paperwork, placing his quill down.

"Levi?" He asked.

Levi placed the letter before him.

"I found one for me and you in (Y/N)s room."

"What does it say?"

"I don't know, I'm guessing yours is different."

Erwin nodded his head and gently picked it up, staring at it, his hand trembling a little bit. He glanced back up at Levi and noticed the ring on his finger, he immediately recognised it as yours.

"Thank you..." Erwin whispered.

Levi nodded and headed back to the door, giving Erwin some peace to read it.

"Levi, I'm sorry..."

"It's not your fault."

With that, he left and Erwin went back to staring at the letter.

He debated between opening it for a few minutes, before finally doing it, pulling with paper out placing it on his desk in order to read it.

He couldn't help but chuckle at your messy handwriting. You weren't the best at writing, it was something you didn't learn until a late age, but from the first time you wrote to the second he could see a massive improvements. He was proud.

Finally, he started to read.

Dear Erwin,
I'm writing this in case something happens to me. I was thinking about it for a while, I didn't want to leave you and Levi with nothing to remember me by, with things that I never said and I always wanted to tell you.
I love you, I already told you you're like my father, and I mean it.
You've been there for me since I was a child, you watched me grow, you taught me how to read and write, you taught me how to cook and clean, you taught me everything my parents couldn't.
I still remember walking around the town with you a few weeks after meeting, every time I tried to sneak away you caught me. You got me my own room at an inn, a place to finally call my home instead of being homeless.
You saved me, you were the one who reached out to me when everyone was too scared.
I became a soldier because of you, I look up to you, if I had to choose who my role model is, I'd say you.
I remember when I was ten, you hugged me for the first time, at 12 you started to teach me to read and write.
When I heard you became commander I was so happy because I knew it was what you wanted.
You never looked at me in anger or fear, you only ever looked at me in softness and love, you always looked out for me.
I'll look out for you no matter where I am, no matter what happens, it's my turn to look after you Erwin Smith.
I've grown so much because of you, now I'm 25 and I can proudly say the person I am today is because of you.
I've left you my knife, the one my father gave me before well.. you know..  I want you to have it to remember me by.
I love you Erwin, take care of yourself, and don't shut anyone out

Erwin slowly reached in to the envelope and pulled out your knife. It was small, it had lines engraved into he blade and a smooth leather handle.

As he held it in his hands, he felt himself ready to cry again, but he held it back. A small smile on his face as he sat there.

"I'm so proud of you (Y/N), so, so proud of you."

He went silent, he had a feeling that wherever you are right now, you'd know that. He wanted you to know how proud he was and he hoped that somehow his words would reach you because he wasn't going to forget you, if someone asked about you he would proudly tell them you were his daughter and how you'd come so far.

Erwin was going to tell everyone how great of a person you really are, and how you came from being a kid on the streets to one of the best soldiers he'd ever known
