Just Little Friends

Yuta smiled when he saw a dark shadow race across the desk they were trying to set up in the Moonwalk basement for the radio station. Most of the equipment had arrived that morning, so they were having a grand ol' time figuring out how to set it up.

Though now Yuta was pretty sure he had figured out why things kept going wrong, and wires were being either tangled or arranged into little hearts.

"Does anyone know if Renjun and Shotaro succeeded in finding a demon in need of a home?"

Taeyong sighed, plopping to the floor and tightening his hair tie, "If they did, I didn't hear about it."

Yuta then heard a soft giggle (but in his mind?) as the shadow darted between wires. He heard the giggle again as the wires by Taeyong formed a little heart, and at the same time Hendery hit his head against the bottom of the desk.

"I swear that thing moved to hit me."

"Is Renjun still upstairs working on the mural?" Yuta asked, ignoring the fact that Hendery was in pain because Taeyong was already doting on him.

"No, he went back to Limitless with Lucas earlier." Jungwoo piped up.

Jungwoo was just there because he wanted to be and it was his weekend off from the animal shelter. He wasn't actually helping that much, but he was reading off the instructions for them. For the most part, though, he was watching them struggle.

"Well is Shotaro here?"

"Do you not pay attention to who we ride in with?" Hendery questioned, back under the desk as he tried to figure out which wires went where.

"I don't know how old half of you are. You're lucky I know your names."

"Shotaro's not here." Taeyong answered, sighing when a wire decided to slap Hendery in the face. "I don't think the demon likes you."

"Really? I didn't notice."

Yuta heard the giggle once more in his mind, and something clicked.

"Yeah, and it has a crush on you." He pointed at the wires still in their heart shape, and he swore the image of a young demon blushing appeared in his mind.

At this point, if he wasn't extremely positive there was at least one demon in the basement, he would've thought he was going crazy. Yuta had no idea how Renjun lived like that with voices just appearing in his mind and the occasional projected image.

Hendery hissed as a wire that wasn't even currently connected to anything zapped him slightly. Not enough to hurt him, but that tingly feeling was not the most pleasant.

"I'm done. I quit. Someone else can do this."

Hendery crawled out from under the desk and sat next to Jungwoo. Jungwoo put an arm around him and pulled him close as Taeyong and Yuta started a round of rock paper scissors to see who would have to go under.

Just as Taeyong was about to crawl under, Hendery's phone buzzed with a notification. He shifted under Jungwoo's arm to grab his phone, seeing it was Renjun texting him.

"Um, Renjun says one of the demons told him they can take over with the wiring. Apparently a demon named Spark used to possess an electrician's tool box and learned the trade." He paused, having to read the second text sent to him twice. "And a demon named Sweetie says she finds Taeyong adorable."

Taeyong slid out from under the desk, unhanding the tools and backing away with his hands raised in surrender.

"Do all demon's have names that start with an 's'? Can Renjun seriously hear them talk from that far away?" Yuta questioned.

Hendery shrugged. "I don't know, maybe they're from the same family as Skip?"

"At least we know there's at least two." Jungwoo pointed out.

The four of them watched as the wires slowly got to where they were supposed to be, almost all the work they had just done being re-done. So much for following the manual.

It didn't take long for the demons to finish what they were doing, and they knew they never could've done it all that fast. The only thing in question now was if it was all actually going to work, or they just let the demons play the biggest prank on them while they were in the room.

"Maybe Spark didn't actually hate you, maybe Spark was trying to tell you you were doing it wrong." Jungwoo commented.

Hendery scoffed, "I don't know about that."

They stared at the finished radio equipment, complete with a cardboard sign Taeil colored for them to prop outside the trap door to the basement to signal if they were on air.

"So..." Yuta drawled, "Who's going to test it?"

"Let's leave that for someone else to do." Taeyong decided.

They promptly got up and left the basement, profusely thanking the demons for their hard work. It just wasn't work they were going to mess with at the moment.
