Under the Stars

The six prom goers stood outside the entrance to the venue, staring up at the massive wooden doorway and the chandelier that was hanging in the foyer. Most of the students coming to the prom from the three different high schools were already inside or trickling in.

"So are we going in or...?" Kun started, not wanting to stand in the cold for much longer.

"I think we should've brought the 99 line with us." Jungwoo commented, shifting on his feet.

He was convinced at this point that they were going to ditch him for their classmates since almost no one in Jungwoo's grade was going to be there unless they were asked by a senior or junior. Jungwoo just so happened to be asked by both.

"Yeah, we could've, but they didn't earn it." Ten said.

"Didn't you ask Hendery to be your date?" WinWin pointed out, Ten just shrugging.

"Like I said, they didn't earn it."

"Can we please go inside? It's freezing out here." Doyoung complained, his teeth literally starting to chatter.

"No one said you had to stay out here and be associated with us." Jaehyun immediately threw back, a teasing smile on his face.

"Guess you should've worn something warmer," Kun tsked.

"You guys are so mean, I don't know why I'm still around."

The other five gasped, completely unironically.

"You take that back."

"Which part? You guys being mean or-"

"Not knowing why you're still around. We know we're mean." WinWin interrupted, earning himself a very soft glare from Jungwoo. "Except for Woo."

"Fine, I take it back. I love being here. Now can we please go inside? Half of prom will be done by the time we get in there." That and Doyoung was still really cold and Jungwoo looked like he was too. How the others weren't cold, he had no idea.

The six of them actually started walking into the building, and they made it two steps before Jungwoo stopped them.

"Wait! Who am I walking in with?"

"All of us?" WinWin questioned.

"No, Jaehyun and Ten both asked me to come with them."

"Just walk between us then, it's not that big of a deal." Jaehyun decided, pulling Jungwoo between Ten and himself.

Now that they were finally situated and no one had any interruptions, the six of them actually entered the prom venue. It was now almost twenty minutes since they had been dropped off there, but that was besides the point.

The main room they were all gathered in was dimly lit with disco lights, a stark contrast to the fancy décor. They were pretty sure this was also a common wedding venue, so that would explain the size and fanciness of it, but who knows. There was no way their school could afford it, that was for sure. To their knowledge, at least.

The theme for the night, however, was "under the stars." Kind of like under the sea, but space.

Glow in the dark stars were shimmering on the floor and lining the walkways, even decorating the table. Someone was going to eat one tonight probably.

Purple and navy blue table cloths added to the aesthetic, and Jungwoo was pretty sure someone put a blow up alien in the corner. That was also most likely going to be misused tonight.

The only thing that would've made it better was if someone was walking around offering drinks. But nooooo they had to serve themselves.

A majority of their classmates were already on the dance floor making a fool of themselves, only a few of the awkward ones littering the walls of the room. There was also a group playing card games at a table, using the glow in the dark stars as gambling money.

Doyoung and Ten were both cat called by their buddies to the dance floor as soon as they stepped into the room (their buddies were not the same people, that was just a coincidence), so those two were already off.

WinWin headed to the group playing cards in the corner of the room, picking up his own glow in the dark stars to be dramatic when he joined them. Kun was right behind him, leaving Jungwoo and Jaehyun standing there.

Jaehyun smiled as he turned to face Jungwoo, holding out his hand with a small bow.

"May I have this dance?"

"Just don't make it too gay." Jungwoo teased, taking his hand and allowing himself to be led onto the dance floor.

Despite the chivalry Jaehyun displayed, the song playing was Married to the Music by SHINee, followed by Gashina by Sunmi and many others.

Jungwoo and Jaehyun danced as if they were in their own world, just having fun. At one point Ten came in (despite his friends questioning who that kid was) and danced with Jungwoo, and Doyoung did join them too.

Kun and WinWin had to be dragged away from their card games when a round finished. Literally. Jaehyun had to pick up WinWin and walk him out to the dance floor. Kun came of his own will, but after they dragged him out of his chair.

"There's no way you're going through prom without dancing." Ten decided, neither Kun nor WinWin actually upset they were dragged from their safe corner.

"I still don't know how your tiny body picked me up."

Ten just smirked at Kun, hiding how he wanted to collapse onto the floor from exhaustion. Either Kun was heavy or he was weak, and one of those he was never going to admit.

Cutting them both off, Jungwoo grabbed WinWin's hand and spun him around a couple of times. The two of them then started taking turns spinning each other around until they got dizzy, the other four starting a dance battle between themselves. No one was actually declared the winner because they were all too competitive for their own good and only stopped when they physically could not dance any longer.

Kun flinched when he felt a tug on his wrist, expecting to see Jungwoo trying to get his attention. Instead, he saw Jaehyun jumping too. They caught each others eyes, their first thought being that this was a Narnia moment.

"Did you feel that?"

Kun nodded, catching Doyoung now looking on his wrist. It wasn't until he saw the colorful beads on Doyoung's wrist that he realized what was going on.

"I think Renjun wants us home."

"Forget him, it's the last song." Ten pointed up as if that's where the music was coming from, everyone pausing for a second.

The last song for the night was Big Bang's Last Dance. How fitting.

Jaehyun put his arms around Doyoung and WinWin, the others joining in and creating a huddle. Together they swayed to the music, occasionally trying to trip each other.

As prom ended and the kids started leaving before they got dragged into help cleaning up, the six of them stayed in their huddle. It took the threat of having to clean up for them to leave, and at that point they were already running back to the cafe.
