Ch. 49: Akamaru Unleashed! Who's Top Dog Now?

3rd POV

"All right guys, good luck down there." Y/n said with a friendly smile.

Kiba smirks at her as Akamaru barks. "Don't worry about your pretty little head Sweet Cheeks, we got this. Easy peasy!"

The song girl resists the urge to snort, thinking, 'Uh huh, sure. You're gonna think otherwise once you get your butt whipped from the knucklehead.' She puts her hand on the dog's head, petting his soft white fur. "I'm sure you will." Last, but not least, she stands on her tippy toes and gives him a warm hug, careful enough to not squish the puppy that is inside his jacket.

Kiba was taken aback at first, but hugs her back right away with a dopey grin. Naruto, who is already on the battlefield, looks up at them, especially Kiba impatiently with a mix of anger. "Hurry up Kiba, I want to get started on kicking your butt!"

His upper lip curls up into a snarl just as the small canine growls.

Y/n giggles and unwraps her arms around him. "Okay, off you go." With a wink, he heads down the stairs and stops in front of his opponent.

In between them, Hayate annunciates, "Now the eighth match, Naruto Uzumaki and Kiba Inuzuka."

"I've been waiting forever for this. Sorry, Kiba. Don't take it personally if I blow you away." The blonde gives him a wry smile.

Feeling enraged, he jabs a finger at Naruto. "That's just what I was gonna say, only not so politely." He looks down to his pup. "Right Akamaru?"

"Ruff!"

A big red irk mark appears on the back of Naruto's head and he points back, "Oh yeah? Well, talking's easy. Let's see what you've got to say at the end of the match."

Kiba growls out, "Little squirt." And puts down Akamaru on the floor.

"Wait a second, are you kidding me?! What's the puppy doing here? He's just gonna get in the way."

Still crouching near his dog, "Deal with it. I never go into battle without Akamaru." The dog barks twice in agreement.

Naruto turns to the proctor and points a finger at the duo. "Come on, isn't that against the rules or something?"

"No, like Shino's bugs, they are a part of him. He is within the rules." He answered in one breath.

"Uhh..." He shakes his head and turns back to Kiba. "Whatever, fine with me. I do my best work with a handicap."

"Ha! We'll just see about that." Kiba stands up. "Akamaru, you stay right here and leave all this to me. I've got it." The white and brown puppy turns his furry head to his owner, letting out a small growl.

Above them, Sakura is gripping hard on the railings, shouting, "Go on Naruto! You can't lose to this jerk!"

'The moment's finally here.' Kakashi thought with a hidden smile.

Kurenai, who is behind Shino and Hinata thinks, 'Sorry Kakashi, but your boy doesn't stand a chance against Kiba. Not a chance.' She turns slightly to the gray haired Jonin.

'Kiba's on my team. I should be rooting for him, but I really want to support Naruto.' Hinata thought with a blush. 'Kiba wouldn't like it, but even so...' She looks down on him sadly.

Lee stares down at the blonde boy. 'Naruto...'

"Awe man, Kiba's so lucky." Choji huffs.

Y/n snaps her head to him with a moody expression on her s/c face. "Hey, I heard that Choji!"

Choji visibly flinches and tries to hide his face within his white scarf. Shikamaru faces the other way with a scoff, catching Ino's attention.
