Ch. 8: Secrets & Clones

Your POV

As I waited for Naru to finish his test, I look towards the group of parents with their children who earned their headbands.

I heard one kid saying, "I'm a ninja, Genin."

Their parent responds, "I wish your grandma were here to see this. I'm proud of you son, we all are."

"Congratulations! I'm going to cook all your favorites tonight. We'll have a feast!"

Then, I turn towards to Naru who is gloomily walking towards me. I scoot over and he sat on the swing, leaning his face on the rope. From past experiences, I learned that I don't have to say anything since action speaks louder than words. I patted his back to soothe him a little, that is until I heard two hags talking lowly about my best friend.

"There, do you see him?"

"It's that boy. I hear he's the only one who failed."

Before they can finish the rest of their dialogue, I gave them the same hard stare that I gave to Mizuki earlier. And just like that idiot, both of their faces began to flush and sweat. To add more fear into them, I slide my index finger against my neck as a promise to make their lives miserable if any of them talks about Naru badly like that again. Soon, they ran off with tails between their legs never to be seen again.

"You didn't have to do that n/n." I heard him say sadly.

"No, but I want to. They deserve it." I said firmly.

I turn to Naru with a soften look, I wrap my arm around his shoulders to bring him into a side hug.

"Y-y/n?!" He stuttered in shock.

"Shhh, it's okay. Let it all out." I instructed gently as I rub his arm comfortably.

Soon, I hear soft sniffling coming from my whiskered friend and I just let him cry on my shoulder. To help him calm down even more, I tried humming a soft tune that I always hear from my mom whenever I'm upset. (A/N: Top video 😊)

After about two minutes of humming, I feel him stop shaking and slowly sit up straight. He rub away his fallen tears and slowly smiles at me.

"There's the smile I love seeing." I compassionately told him.

His face turns a bit more red than he already was when hearing that, "Thank you n/n. You're the greatest friend that anyone can ask for. Believe it."

I grin genuinely at him and ruffle his sunshine hair. Our moment then got ruined by none other than the traitor himself.

"Hello y/n, I would like to speak with Naruto for a moment if you please?" He told me with a hint of demand and a glint of threat in his eyes.

I gave him a fake smile with an "If you hurt him, I will end you" look in my e/c eyes. "Sure. Naru, I will see you at the apartment okay?"

Naru smiles at me with both of his eyes closed and replies, "You got it n/n! Believe it!"

With a nod, I got off the swing and walk to the direction of my home.

Timeskip to night time~

I am pacing back and forth in my living room waiting for Naru to come back. I know what's happening right now but I can't help but feel scared for Naru. I began to bite my nails nervously thinking if I changed the timeline somehow. That is until I feel harsh headache going on all of a sudden. I grab onto my head in pain and groan while bending down to the floor.

"What's going on?!"
