Ch. 79: An Unrivaled Match: Hokage Battle Royale!

3rd POV

Deep in the dark forest, Temari is leaning her ear on a tree trunk. She listens carefully if the intruders are nearby.

"Well Temari, what's up?" Kankuro fixes his grip on his little brother.

Temari brings her head up straight faced. "He's close." She rises up to her feet and moves to the edge. "Very close."

"I knew it. What do we do?"

With a grin, she holds out a roll of metal wires. "Leave everything to me."

She bites on the end of the string and brings her hand forward to unravel it. You can hear the piercing metallic sound up close. Her mouth forms into a dark grin as the surface of the wire shines.

With Sasuke, he is coming nearer and nearer, unaware of what he will face up ahead. Using his hands on the wood, he launches himself to do a somersault. He didn't see Temari's wire nor the paper bomb underneath it. All of a sudden, the paper lights up from behind the boy and just in time, he turns his head to see the explosion setting off. He lands on another branch and hops off to avoid the fiery bomb. Finding a safe distance, he breathes in air into his lungs but then stops. His dark orbs roam about noting more metal wires all around him. Hearing a sizzle, he immediately leaps up and hears the loud boom.

He plants his feet on the upper branch, making his whole body upside down. "Well that was close."

A few feet away, the song bird and her group can also hear the distant explosions. Y/n can feel her blood pumping into her veins as she stands next to the pinkette.

Sakura swiftly rotates her head in alarm. "Whoa, what was that?"

A couple of leaves rustle and outcomes Naruto who drops down behind them.

Followed by Pakkun who lands on top of his spiky blonde hair. "Trip-wire traps. They're certainly not making Sasuke's job easy for him."

"Sasuke..." Sakura whispered in dismay. "Do you think he might have been—"

Naruto cuts her off. "Oh, don't worry about Sasuke. It'd take a lot more than that to get rid of him. He'll be fine."

Y/n nods her head with a reassuring smile. "He's right about him, he's too stubborn to even get caught from a measly trap."

The pug stays quiet as he stares off straight ahead. 'I sure hope you're both right.' He feels someone gently petting his head and ears and turns his snout to see the songbird's smile.

He eases off his stare and closes his eyes in pure bliss.

In the Leaf Village...

Dark gray clouds are fully covering the bright blue sky like they're brewing up a storm. No sudden movements were made from the people within the purple barrier.

"Now then, shall we begin this? First, let me restore these dear old companions of yours to something more like their former selves. And then, if you're ready, Sarutobi sensei." He brings the paper sealed kunais close to the corpses' heads and it phases through the back of their skulls.

The first two Hokages' eyes went dull and their bodies slump a bit. The two coffin covers release some steam and cover the men with it. Soon enough, the color of their skins are turning more lifelike and the protruding veins are disappearing.

"They're coming alive." The Anbu leader said in awe.

The Anbu on his right faces him. "What the devil kind of jutsu is that?"

"A forbidden one. It's a summoning jutsu called Reanimation." They watch Hashirama's hand opening and closing. "Normally, a summoning jutsu requires the blood of the one casting it. But I've heard that this jutsu, which summons the dead to the world of the living, demands the sacrifice of a living body to be used as a vessel for the dead soul."
