Ch. 77: Village in Distress: A New A-Ranked Mission!

3rd POV

A sound ninja swiftly sneaks in an attack but Kakashi is much faster. He dodges his blow and sends a slash right back at him. Kicking the ninja behind him, Sakura brings her head down from the incoming attacker. Thankfully his body misses her by a hair.

Facing her sensei again, she urgently asks him, "But Sensei, what are you doing? With this battle going on, why send us off on some mission?"

Kakashi's dark orb roams to her general direction but his body stays still for any more sneak attack. "Sasuke's chasing Gaara and the other sand ninja."

"What?" She whispered to herself.

He brings the edge of his kunai close to his thumb. "Sakura, release the genjutsu. Wake Naruto, y/n, and Shikamaru, and follow Sasuke." With a prick, a small stream of blood slides down his left thumb. 'I feel uneasy about that weird chakra.' He thought as he gazed down to his bloody thumb.

"But, then, shouldn't we wake Ino and Choji and go in a group?" Next to her, the last two of Asuma's team are unconscious over their laps.

He reaches into his right pocket. "No time, I suspect that many Sound and Sand shinobi may have already infiltrated this village." He turns his head side to side in caution. "Besides, if you have more than the five ninja essential to a squad, it takes longer to get anything done; and becomes more difficult to hide from the enemy. You did learn that in Academy Patrol Training, didn't you?"

"Of course, with five squad members, that means you'll be coming with us right?" She widens her eyes in understanding.

The Hatake forms several hand signs in speed. "No, I must not leave this place." He placed his hand on a civilian's back. "Summoning Jutsu!" A puff of smoke erupts from his hand and finally fades away to reveal a little brown pug wearing the Leaf headband on its head.

Sakura scrunches her pink brows in confusion. "Huh?"

"Pakkun here will track down Sasuke by scent." He watches his dog rub his eye with his paw.

She points at the canine with her finger. "Wait, seriously, our fifth member is a puppy?"

The small pup hops to another person's back and walks the rest till he comes close to her face. "All right, listen little girl. Don't you dare go around saying I'm just some cute puppy."

'But, I didn't even say "cute."' She stares back at him looking overwhelmed.

"Okay, it's time. Sakura, go release the genjutsu." Her sensei ordered.

The pinkette nods her head and crawls out of her spot with Pakkun next to her. When they arrive, Sakura climbs up the steps and stops near Naruto and y/n. She quietly forms a few hand signs.

Next, she closes her eyes with both index fingers close to her closed mouth. 'Release!' She gently puts two fingers on Naruto's back and y/n's neck and taps them once.

They both groan under their breath and open their eyes feeling groggy. Not paying attention at first, they look into each other's eyes dazed but then reality hits them like a train. In a snap they sit up and look away from each other. Naruto's cheeks are red blushing hot while the song bird's are a warm pink. Sakura just watches them unimpressed while Pakkun yawns.

Naruto rubs the sleepiness from his cerulean eyes and notices his teammate. "Hey, what's going on Sakura?"

Before she says anything, she blinks with a gasp. "Get down!" She brings both of them on the floor, barely missing a kunai.

"Oh my face!" Y/n's voice is muffled from the floor.

It soon hits the wall and drops on the ground near Shikamaru's foot.
