Ch. 62: Live or Die: Risk It All to Win It All!

Your POV

It's been three weeks since I first started training for the final exam. I have been training with Himitsu here and there whenever she's not drinking. But of course, she can't live without her alcohol so sometimes she would put the lesson short and expect me to perform the jutsu perfectly. For the jutsu, we are still on the summoning one, why you ask?

Because according to her, she said and I quote, "You must call out a different bear that is useful for your battles. Not the three puny cubs that have yet hurt a fly."

It was a good thing that the three baby bears were not there to hear that. My heart will tear up in two if I ever see a sad frown or tears on their furry faces. Anyway, she said that I should at least call out a bigger bear, at least the same size as hers. But every time I try, it doesn't work. I would either summon the three cubs, or just summon one of them. Each day, the old hag gets impatient and bored of my mistakes. So in the end, she dismissed me and strolled off to who knows where. I feel bad but yet relieved that I don't have to keep poking my thumb to the brink of turning blue. Right now, I am on my way to see Naru and Hermit the Toad. I want to check up on his progress. After all, this is the day when it finally happened.

3rd POV

Four young women in bathing suits are playing in the cool river. Laughing and having the time of their lives. Apparently, they are not alone because behind the bushes is the number one pervert, Jiraiya. Whose face is a deep shade of pink and whose eye has a gleam of happiness. A few feet away, his student Naruto frowns and keeps a keenful eye on his hands.

After forming his hand signs, he yells out. "Summoning Jutsu!" He slams his hand on the rocky ground with his ribbons of blood dripping out from his thumb and the black markings appear around it.

An opaque cloud of smoke engulfs his body, making him close his left eye. "That just had to work." Naruto said with a hopeful grin.

As the smoke clears, there on the ground is not a tiny tadpole, but a bigger sized baby toad with its tail still attached. This toad is grayish green with red small spirals all over its body. Naruto blinks in bewilderment and has a bead of sweat on his cheek. He watches the toad's tail wagging back and forth like a puppy dog.

He suddenly cries out, "Aahh! What the heck is the difference between a frog and a tadpole anyway?!"

Not hearing a word he said, the old man laughs pervertedly towards the pretty women.

"Hi guys." The h/c haired girl greeted with a wave of her hand.

Naruto turns around feeling warmth in his whiskered cheeks. "Oh, hi n/n chan!"

The old man just lifts up his hand not looking back.

"How's your summoning?" Y/n asked moving next to the blonde.

He instantly frowns and waterfall tears pour out from his eyes. "I have a half n' half!"

Y/n looks down to the small amphibian and smiles. "What are you talking about? I see improvement. At least this one's bigger and has limbs. Unlike me, I can't call out any other bears besides the three."

"Who are the three?" Naruto blinks in confusion.

Y/n went quiet but finally answered, "The three little pigs Naru: Straw, Stick, and Brick."

Naruto narrows his ocean blue eyes at her in annoyance.

"I'm sorry Naru, Teach's sarcasm is starting to rub off on me." She apologized genuinely.

Naruto eases off his glare and sighs with a sentimental smile. "That's all right n/n."

"Thank you nacho head." Y/n smiles tiredly at him.
