Ch. 38: Bushy Brow's Pledge: Undying Love & Protection

Your POV

It is my turn for the next watch. Snowy and Sakura are resting near me while Naru and Duckie are still knocked out. We also managed to set up several traps for the unwanted visitors. I am staring at my bandaged hands with a stoic look, wondering how am I gonna help fight the sound ninja without my hands. Maybe I could strum my strings with my feet? I don't know. Then, I hear someone whimpering so I turn my head to find out that PB is having a nightmare.

I walk towards her and use the back of my hand to wake her up. "Pst, PB's wake up."

"Huh?!" She jolted awake and instantly sat up straight.

"Hey, are you okay?" I asked her in concern.

She is breathing a bit too quickly but still manages to calm herself down. "I-I'm fine, it's just a dream." She said and looked back to our teammates.

I take a deep breath and say, "Well, they are fine. We're all okay, it's over now."

"Yeah, your right." She nodded. "Hey, since I'm awake now, how about I take over the next watch?"

"Well, all right. Wake me up if we have an intruder okay?" With that, I lay down on the ground and shut my e/c eyes.

Half an hour later....

I am busy snoring my butt off having a dreamless sleep when I feel someone shaking me vigorously.

"Y/n, wake up!" They whispered.

"Huh, wha?" I yawn and wake up to see PB's looking very scared. "What's wrong?"

"There's something in the bushes." She points outside.

I get up and quietly tip toe with PB's to the opening seeing the bushes make a rustling noise. We waited a few more seconds with our weapons out when a small squirrel crawled out of that bush.

My e/c eyes widened, 'They're here.'

"Oh man, don't surprise us like that little guy." She told the little critter who is running towards us.

Then, she gasps and hastily throws her kunai in front of the squirrel. The bushy tailed rodent squeaks in fear and runs off the other way.

"That was close." I said in relief.

"You said it." She agreed with me. "Should we take a look at your hands? I can put more ointment on them."

I look down at my hands, bending my fingers a bit. "Yeah, that would be great. Thanks PB's." We both smile at each other and I start to unwrap the bandages.

3rd POV

Outside of their temporary shelter, another team is hiding within the greenery, keeping an eye on the girls and the squirrel.

"I thought for sure that would work. Do you think they saw the paper bomb we put on the squirrel?" Zaku asked, staring at the runaway squirrel with the paper bomb attached to its back.

Dosu hums, "No, that wasn't it."

The spiky haired ninja turns to his teammate. "Hm, then what was it? What are you thinking?"

"I'm thinking we need to go closer and find out." Dosu pushes down the leaves a bit from his view. "So let's get going." He chuckles darkly.

Nearby, within the deeper part of the forest, Lee is jumping from one tree branch to another. Then, he lands on one with a crouch, noticing plenty of fallen leaves below him.

He clenches his fist with a competitive look on his face and a twinkle gleam in his eye. 'Okay, if I can catch all twenty of those leaves before they hit the ground, then y/n will fall in love with me.' His cheeks start to warm up from his blush. 'But if I cannot, then she will never return my feelings. That is the challenge I am going to give myself.'
