# Lunar
"So... I'm safe here?" Lunar asked as Dad sat down beside her.
"Yes," Dad said. "We will make sure of that."
She looked down at her arm.
"So what you're saying is that tonight I'll turn into a wolf?"
Dad nodded.
"On a full moon."
Lunar's breathing became shaky.
"Tonight?"
"Not just any full moon," Dad said. "It's going to be a red moon."
She stared at him.
"A red moon?"
"Yes."
Her face went pale.
"And I'm really going to turn into a wolf?"
"You are."
She looked like she wanted to run.
Dad noticed.
"It isn't going to be easy," he continued. "It's going to hurt. But we'll help you find your wolf. We'll help you get through the pain."
Lunar looked over at me.
Then she looked at the blood covering my fur.
"So what happened to her?"
Dad glanced at me.
"Why is she a wolf if she can change back?"
Dad took a breath.
"She was badly hurt by a wolf with a lot of power."
Lunar frowned.
"What does that mean?"
"If you get bitten or scratched by an Ultima, you can't change back until the next full moon."
He paused.
"And then the red moon."
Lunar looked at me again.
"So she's stuck like that until then?"
"Yes."
She stared at the blood on my back.
"Who would do that to her?"
Dad's expression changed.
"It wasn't a stranger."
He looked toward the hallway.
"It was my son."
Lunar looked shocked.
"Your son?"
"He didn't know how to control himself."
Dad looked at me.
"And it ended with Jade getting badly hurt."
Lunar's eyes softened.
"Oh..."
She looked down.
"So she can't be human again until a full moon..."
"And then the red moon," Dad said.
"That's what you called it."
"Yep."
Dad looked toward her.
"The red moon is when a new wolf, like you, starts."
Lunar swallowed.
"So tonight..."
"Yes."
She looked terrified.
I understood that look.
Because I'd worn the exact same expression when I found out.
*This has to be crazy.*
I remembered thinking the same thing.
*There's no way I'm a werewolf.*
But it was real.
And now Lunar was sitting in front of me hearing the same thing.
Except for her, it was worse.
She didn't grow up knowing this world existed.
She had been kidnapped.
Used.
Had things injected into her body.
And now she was being told that tonight she would become something she never asked to be.
I watched her closely.
Dad seemed to understand what she was thinking too.
"I know you're scared," he said.
Lunar looked at him.
"But it will be fine. We'll all be here."
"Who's all?" she asked.
Dad smiled slightly.
"There are others like us."
"More?"
She looked around
