Chapter FIVE

After our run, Maya and I shifted back into our human forms and got dressed. We started walking through the woods toward the edge of town. "So," I said "how's Leanna doing?" Maya shrugged. "She's okay you know her  she's getting ready for school, but still trying to find her mate." I thought your parents were helping." They tried Maya said rolling her eyes. Mom and dad introduced her to a guy they thought would be perfect, but Leanna hated him. She got so mad at them. I laughed sounds like Leanna. Maya smiled she said she'd rather wait forever then be with the wrong person. For a moment neither of us spoke. Then Maya looked at me. What about you, Alex have you found your mate?" I shook my head. No not yet but my mom told me she knows I'll find her  when school starts. Maya raised an eyebrow. How would she know that? She said mothers just know. Maya frowned. What does that even mean? My mom thought she knew who Leannas mate was and was completely wrong. That's different I know my mom she wouldn't lie to me she's just trying to give me hope.  Maya looked thoughtful. I'm not saying she's lying I'm just saying we know everybody at Haven high. She kicked a small rock off the trial. No one's new ever comes here. So who would even be your mate? I signed I don't know but if someone dose transfer here this year.. Maya grinned I'll admit your mom was right. I smiled back and if she is I'll introduce my mate to the pack. Oh absolutely Maya laughed we should tell her all about werewolves. I smirked maybe scare her a little. She shoved my shoulder. "Alex!" I was kidding so was I  she pointed a finger at me no you weren't. I laughed I'd never scare my own mate   Ha oh really Maya crossed her arms. What about all the girls at school hmm what about them? Oh come on you give them the wolf stare with your eyes I do not oh yes you do I've never scared anyone at school Alex she said trying not to laugh half the girls leave the cafeteria when you walk in because of it no that's because they are done eating no Maya said shaking her head. They leave because you accidentally let you eyes turn gold  whenever someone annoys you." I rubbed the back of my neck. Maybe once no Alex more then once. I groaned I've been getting better you have Maya admitted but you're Alpha now.  You have to learn to control it. She looked at me seriously if humans ever see your wolf eyes you'll put the whole pack at risk. I know" ans what kind of Alpha would you be if you couldn't control yourself?" I took a deep breath I'll keep practicing. You better she joked I will I promise. We reached the edge of the forest where we'd left our backpacks. I pulled on my shirt and jeans before slinging my backpack over one shoulder I should get home I said I've got a lot to learn now how to be a Alpha. Maya smiled. Good luck Alpha she joked I just rolled my eyes at her don't start she laughed so I'll see you at school on Tuesday day? Yea why would I miss the first day of school I'll be there. Ok just checking see you then and we went different directions. As I walked home my thoughts drifted back to what mom had said

I still didn't know who she was but for the first time in a long time I believed my mom.

Maybe this school year was about to change everything.
