### Chapter — The Secret

The sun finally began to come up, lighting the sky with soft morning colors.

I turned around and looked behind me.

Alex was still there, his arms wrapped around me, holding me close. I looked past him toward the trees.

The others were still hiding behind the same tree.

I smiled a little.

"Guys, I know you're behind there."

There was silence for a second.

Then Maya stepped out from behind the tree, followed by everyone else.

Maya looked between me and Alex, raising an eyebrow.

"So... you two are a thing now?"

I looked at Alex.

He looked back at me.

For a second, neither of us said anything.

Then Alex smiled.

"Yes. We are."

I smiled at him.

Maya smiled too.

"That's good."

I finally got up, and everyone started walking back toward the house.

As we were walking, I suddenly remembered something.

"Um... what about the car?"

Alex looked at me.

"I'll go get it."

"Okay."

We made our way back to the house. When we got there, I looked at the time.

It was only seven in the morning.

We still had time to get ready for school.

I went upstairs and got changed. I decided to wear the outfit I'd worn on the first day of school. Once I was ready, I went downstairs.

I saw Leanna and walked over to her.

"So... um, is there going to be another moon?"

Leanna looked at me.

"Yes. But I think you can control it now."

She paused.

"You and Alex will make sure you can control it."

I looked at her, still unsure.

"Are you sure? I can't go home if I can't control it. I don't want my dad or my brother to see me like this."

Leanna gave me a reassuring smile.

"We'll make sure they don't. We're here for you, Jade. All of us. We'll make sure you learn how to keep it under control and help you through all of it."

She looked toward the door.

"And Alex will be there whenever you need help too."

I nodded.

"Okay. I know I'll be okay."

I grabbed my bag.

"Let's get going. I think Alex is outside."

I walked outside and saw everyone getting ready to leave.

Before I could get into the car, my phone buzzed.

I looked down.

It was my dad.

**Dad:**
*Hey Jade, you need to come home tonight. Ace misses you and he's not feeling so good. And Lex text me back when you get this.*
