# Lilly — The Scars
"What are you talking about?" Leanna and Maya asked at the same time.
"Lilly, you never take a break from your wolf."
Alex looked at her carefully.
"Lilly... what happened to you this summer?"
She didn't answer.
"Every time we ask about your wolf, you push the conversation away," Alex continued. "Why?"
Lilly looked down.
"What are you not telling us?"
Nobody moved.
"What happened to your wolf, Lilly?"
They all stared at her.
Lilly turned away from them, clearly uncomfortable.
"Nothing."
"Lilly—"
"Just go."
Her voice was quiet.
Then her eyes suddenly began to glow.
Alex noticed immediately.
"The red moon is going to make you shift."
Lilly's breathing changed.
"I can't be down here."
She turned to leave.
Alex grabbed her arm.
"Lilly, wait."
"Let go!"
She tried pulling away.
Then the red light hit her.
Her body immediately began to change.
Fur spread across her skin.
Her bones shifted.
Her hands became paws.
Her face changed.
And then—
Everyone saw.
The scars.
They covered her body.
Old scars.
Deep scars.
Some were faded.
Others were still painfully visible.
Everyone gasped.
"Oh my God..."
"Lilly..."
"What happened to you?"
Lilly looked down at herself.
She didn't say a word.
Then she turned and ran.
"LILLY!"
They all shouted after her.
But she was already gone.
Nobody moved for a second.
Then Alex spoke.
"That's why she didn't want to shift."
Maya looked toward the woods.
"She was hiding them from us."
"And now she's upset," Leanna said.
"We need to find her."
Alex looked at me.
"Jade... are you sure you can come?"
