"Aren't I the boss now?" I asked with a grin
Mom and dad looked at each other before smiling you guessed it," dad said "we were going to make it a surprise for your birthday, but you figured it out." Mom laughed. Happy sixteen birthday Alex." I couldn't stop smiling.
"Seriously? I'm the alpha now. Dad nodded proudly you are. The pack will look to you for leadership one day." "This is the best birthday ever!" I said throwing my arms around both of them they laughed and hugged me back "we knew you'd like it," mom said "so... everyone has to listen to me now?" I asked with a smirk. Dad chuckled. "Not quite. You're the Alpha but you still have lot to learn. Being a leader isn't about giving orders-it's about protecting your pack." I nodded then mom smiled and said "there's one thing you'll need someday." "A mate. I signed and leaned against the kitchen counter "I've looked everywhere. I don't even know where she'll be." Dad shrugged. School starts Tuesday maybe I'll meet her there. I laughed " I already know everyone at school she's definitely not there mom walked over and gently rested a hand on my shoulder. " don't worry sweetheart. You'll find her " but how do you know that?" She smiled "mothers just know. It's something we can feel." I wasn't sure if I believed that...but I hoped she was right. Before I could ask another question someone knock on the front door. "I'll get it!" I opened the door to find Maya standing there with a huge smile. "Happy birthday!" She said before giving me a quick hug. "So..." she teased, crossing her arms "you're Alpha now?" I grinned "yep. Guess that means I'm your boss she burst out laughing. "Yeah right as if I'd listen to you." "You have to now "we're friends, Alex. Nice try." We both laughed " how's Ben?" I asked. "He's good Maya replied. " he's just complaining that school starts on Tuesday. I keep telling him it'll be fun to go back but he doesn't believe me." "I don't blame him we laughed again. So...." Maya said, " want to go for a run in the woods?" I looked over at mom and dad they both nodded. "Go have some fun," dad said. You'll have plenty of Alpha responsibilities soon enough. "Thanks" maya and I hurried outside. We grabbed the clothes we always wore after our run then walked to the edge of the forest " you ready? She asked "always." In seconds, we shifted my body stretched and changed until I stood on four paws. My fur was jet black and my bright yellow eyes. reflected the morning sunlight. Beside me Maya transformed into a beautiful light gray wolf. Streaks of soft purple ran through her fur making her stand out from every other wolf in the pack. Her golden eyes sparkled as she playfully nudged my shoulder. Maya's older sister, Leanna, looked completely different. Her fur was a mix of pale blue and black and her icy blue eyes made her look fierce. At seventeen she was one of the strongest wolf in the pack.

Maya and I had been best friends for years she had actually found her mate before her sixteen birthday. His name was Ben when they first met at school, Ben was human. But after they fell in love, he asked Maya to turn him into a werewolf so they could be together forever. She bit him, and after surviving the painful transformation, he officially became a member of our pack. Maya looked at me with a playful grin "race you." Before I could answer, she took off though the trees. "Oh you're on" I sprinted after her, my paws pounding against the forest floor as the wind rushed through my fur.
