# The Truth

I sat there staring at my phone, waiting for Dad to answer.

Nothing.

I looked at Maya.

"I guess but why would they keep that from me? That's not like my mom and dad to do that. It may not be that, Maya. It's got to be something else."

Maya nodded.

"Okay, but if he does know what you are, then he can help you and make you stronger."

Before I could say anything, the bell rang.

"Oh, well, I got to go to art now. I'll see you at lunch, and I'll tell the others what my dad texted me."

"Yeah, cya."

I watched Maya go the other way before I headed to art.

I had Leanna in my second class. We waited for the teacher to come in.

"Good morning, class," the teacher said. "Today we will still do our paintings, then we'll go to the next thing. It will be self-painting, which means you paint things you like. I'll need all that done before Friday, so let's get to work."

I got my artwork out and all the paints.

The artwork I was doing was a pretty river with a sunset. I looked over and saw Leanna doing a Paris painting, and it looked so good.

"Wow, Leanna, that looks really good."

She smiled.

"Thanks."

Time went by, and I was so close to being done when the bell rang for my other class.

It was a free class, so I asked my teacher if I could take some paint and sit in the other room to get this last part done.

She was so nice that she let me.

I went right back to work.

The time went by again, and it was like a few more minutes until lunch.

I packed up and cleaned up my mess and gave my painting to my teacher.

Now I was ready for the new painting.

The bell rang.

I went to meet up with the others and show them my text.

They all read it and looked just like me and Maya when we were looking at it.

Alex looked at me.

"So your dad does know?"

I nodded.

"And we've been keeping this a secret from him because we didn't want him to know?"

"Wow," he said. "That's good news. That means we can trust him and not keep it from him anymore."

We got to the lunch table and sat down.

We waited for all the other people to get their food. Then we all got up and got ours.

When we came back, we started talking about the text.

Alex looked at me.

"So we should go and see whatever is wrong with your brother."

"I don't know if my dad would want you guys there. It's a family thing."

"If he does know, we should be there to support you."

"I guess."

As we finished our talk, we went to where they were handing out the food, then went back and sat down.
