Days went by...
Before I knew it, the first day of school had finally arrived.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
I groaned and reached over to silence my phone alarm.
7:00 a.m.
It was officially my first day at Haven High.
I lay in bed for a moment, staring at the ceiling.
I was excited...
But I was also terrified.
Everything was going to be different.
A new town.
A new school.
New teachers.
New friends.
I climbed out of bed and walked over to my closet.
"What should I wear?"
I wanted to make a good first impression.
I held up two outfits.
Ripped jeans with a plaid shirt...
Or black pants with a T-shirt.
"Hmm..."
"I'll wear the ripped jeans today."
"I can wear the other outfit tomorrow."
After getting dressed, I brushed my hair, put on a little makeup, and slipped on my favorite boots.
Then I walked across the hall and knocked on Ace's bedroom door.
"You awake, buddy?"
"Come in!"
I opened the door and smiled.
Ace was already dressed with his backpack beside him.
"Wow," I laughed. "You're actually ready before me."
He grinned.
"I didn't want to be late."
"Ready to go?"
He nodded.
"Yep!"
We headed downstairs together.
Dad had already left early to feed the horses, so it was just the two of us.
I grabbed the car keys, stepped outside, and started the car so it could warm up.
A few moments later, Ace came running out of the house and climbed into the passenger seat.
I made sure his seatbelt was buckled.
"Ready?"
He smiled.
"Ready!"
I backed out of the driveway, and together we headed toward Haven High.
As we drove down the road, butterflies filled my stomach.
Something told me...
This first day of school was going to change everything.
