Chapter forty six

# Finally Back at School

As we were all happy to be having kids, I still had school to finish and graduate from. It was the next day, and I was ready to go back to school, but my dad was right—I looked more pregnant than I had yesterday.

I stood in front of the mirror for a moment, looking down at my belly. It was strange seeing myself like this. Everything had happened so fast. One minute, I was worrying about my next shift, and now I was carrying babies that were part wolf.

I placed my hand gently against my stomach.

"Everything is happening so damn fast," I whispered.

Just then, Alex walked into the room and immediately noticed my belly.

"Wow," he said with a smile. "You're really looking like a mom now."

"Ha-ha, thanks," I said, laughing.

Alex walked closer and looked at me with that soft smile that always made me feel safe.

"My dad was right about the weeks going fast," I said.

"Yep. As a werewolf, they grow faster. Or maybe it's because they're half-human."

I looked down at my stomach again.

"Do we know if they're full wolves or like me?"

"Hm." Alex thought for a second. "I didn't think about that."

"Well, when I was ten, I had my first change. So would they?"

"We'll have to see," he said. "Whatever they are, we'll figure it out together."

I smiled at him.

"Yeah."

Alex glanced toward the door.

"But for now, we need to get ready for school."

"Oh shit!" I said, suddenly remembering. "I can't be late for my first week being back."

Alex laughed.

"Go get ready. I'll see you downstairs."

"Yep. I'll be down there soon."

I quickly got my outfit out and got ready as fast as I could. Even though I was excited to finally be back, there was still a nervous feeling sitting in the back of my mind.

I looked at myself one more time before leaving the room.

School.

I hadn't been there in what felt like forever.

I grabbed my things and headed downstairs.

"Bye, Dad," I said as I walked into the kitchen.

"Have a good day," Dad said.

I said goodbye to my brother and Lunar too. Lunar had officially become part of the family now, and honestly, it still felt a little strange saying that.

I grabbed my bag and headed outside.

Once I got into the car, I settled into my seat beside Alex.

As we drove toward school, I couldn't stop thinking about everyone staring at me.

What were they going to think when they saw my belly?

Would they ask questions?

Would they think I had been gone because I was pregnant?

Would people judge me?

I stared out the window, lost in my thoughts.

Alex looked over at me.

"Don't worry."

I turned toward him.

"What?"

"No one will judge you."

I raised an eyebrow.

"You don't even know what I was thinking."

Alex smiled.

"I know you better than anyone."

I rolled my eyes, but I couldn't help smiling.

"Only werewolves can see your full belly," he continued. "To everyone else, it'll just look like you're a little pregnant. You'll be fine."

I stared at him.

"Wow. You're good."

"What?"

"You actually knew what I was thinking."

He laughed softly.

"I mean, of course I can. I'm your mate."

Hearing him say that made my heart skip.

My mate.

Even after everything we'd been through, those words still meant something powerful to me.

Alex reached over and gently squeezed my hand.

"You don't have to be scared," he said quietly. "I'm right here."

I squeezed his hand back.

"Thank you."

A few minutes later, we finally arrived at school.

My stomach twisted with nerves as soon as I saw the building.

Students were everywhere.

Talking.

Laughing.

Walking through the doors.

Living their normal lives.

And then there was me.

A werewolf who had disappeared for weeks and was now coming back to school pregnant with babies who might inherit the wolf inside me.

Yeah.

This was going to be interesting.

We got out of the car, and I took a deep breath.

"You ready?" Maya asked as she walked over.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I said.

Lilly laughed.

"Come on. We don't want to be late."

The three of us headed inside.

For a moment, everything felt almost normal.

Almost.

Me, Maya, and Lilly walked toward English together.

I looked around the hallway, trying not to think about what everyone might be saying behind my back.

But deep down, I knew one thing.

I had made it back.

And whatever happened next, I wasn't facing it alone.
