Chapter Eleven - Alone Time Pt. 1
Percy soon realized he shouldn't have agreed with Baby's notion of friendship that included Collin.
For the past week, he had been subjected to third-wheeling between the two friends, everytime Collin was in the vicinity, it seemed as if Baby latched onto him. She would ask him to tie her hair, and get her candy, and cuddle with her.
Percy wished she'd latch onto him that way.
So he made it his mission to have Baby completely transfer all her very dependent tendencies to him. To have her latch onto him.
“Dad, is it okay if I invite a friend over for a movie while you're gone?”
Percy's dad, James Oppenheimer, a taller and bulkier version of his son, stood hovering over his desk. He looked at his son for a moment.
“A friend?”
He wasn't accustomed to hearing anything about his sons life, most certainly not about any friends.
Percy nodded with a hum, “From next door.”
James walked around his desk, “The Martin's? Didn't know there was more than one kid.”
“There isn't...”
Walking past his son and out of his study, James continued, “A girl. Your friend is that small polite kid?” He chuckled.
His son made a face, "Is that a problem?”
“Just a little funny.” He quipped.
Percy followed his dad down the stairs of their house, a confused look on his face, “Funny? Why?”
James turned into the kitchen and head straight for the refrigerator, “You're a little bit of a... Brute,” He said, “I've spoken to that girl before, what's her name again?”
“Baby.”
"Yeah, she's the embodiment of her name, how'd you two become friends?” James pulled out a can of beer from the fridge and shut the door, “She's pretty too, you like her or something?”
Percy's face went red, he didn't have to say anything to his dad. The man got the message loud and clear from his son's pained expression.
"Let me guess, she has a boyfriend and... You're trying your luck.”
Percy shook his head, “No, that's not it, just, I don't want to scare her off.”
James cringed, “Surprised you didn't already... King Kong.” He laughed as he left his gaping son in the kitchen, calling out, “Have fun with your friend!”

Percy's heart skipped several beats when he heard knocking from the front door twenty minutes later. After pushing back his tousled hair, irrationally smoothing down his hoodie and checking his face in the hallway mirror, he finally made it to the front door.
Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and managed to remain upstanding and composed when Baby smiled her dimpled smile and extended a box of store bought cookies towards him.
“I brought cookies!”
He couldn't help the effortless smile that creeped onto his face, “For me?”
Baby rolled her eyes playfully, “Duh.”
Percy shrugged, “Just checking. Come in, I'll get you something to drink and we can do whatever you want.”
Shuffling past him, the petite brunette let out a gasp, “Your house is so much prettier than I imagined. I don't think anything could compare.”
The boy hummed but thought to himself, you're prettier than my house, no comparison needed.
