Chapter Fifteen - Hoops
Baby slipped onto a barstool and spun around on it. Her dark hair swaying behind her as she spun another three times.
When she stopped spinning, Percy was a lot closer, his blue eyes wide and frantic.
“I have something to tell you Sugarpuff-I mean, Louise.”
Baby nodded, "Okay.”
Percy paused, his entire face completely freezing as he stared at his crush. He felt the familiar ba-dump of his heart as it pounded and the tips of his ears started turning pink.
He sputtered out, “I-I like...”
Baby looked expectant, her long lashes fluttering.
“Basketball.” He blurted.
“Really? Me too!” Baby smiled at him genuinely.
Percy sighed deeply and continued, “That's great, really...” He ran a hand through his hair and a thoughtful expression slipped onto his face.
“Hey, do you wanna watch me play?”
His hands trembled with anxiety that she might say no when all the girl did was stare back at him with raised brows.
Then she said, “You want me to watch you play?” Her lips stretched into a small shy smile, “I always wanted to watch you play, but Colin never liked it and I didn't want to be alone.”
“Come to one of my games, I'll get you a front row seat.”
Baby clapped in excitement and accepted the invitation.

The following day at school, Baby had a spring in her step as she skipped over to Percy's locker and let out a soft 'boo' to scare the boy.
She didn't scare him at all but he gasped dramatically and put a hand to his chest to spare her feelings.
“Look! Don't I look like a basketball player today?” She twirled and showed off her outfit.
Percy chuckled, “You sure do. Wanna verse me at practice in gym?”
With a determined nod, Baby raised her chin high and declared, “I could beat you, no sweat.”

“—I take it back.” Baby wheezed as she slid onto the court floor and planted her face to the floor as she tried to regain her breath.
Percy laughed and sat down next to Baby, “I'll give you props for trying though.”
Their one-on-one match ended in 12-3.
Rolling onto her side, the girl smiled, “That was so much fun. You're awesome at basketball.”
With cheeks alight and butterflies in his stomach, Percy held out his hand and cleared his throat, “Come on, we can go to lunch after this and I'll give you a few pointers.”
