EEKS had gone by. Percy and Baby saw each other maybe twice in the month. Once on Brielle's birthday, in the awkward mess of Colin handing Brielle a present and a note that seemed to make the redhead retreat into her shell. They made eye-contact and smiled, then later on found themselves dancing together.

The second time they saw each other was when Percy called Baby because he had caught the flu. She ditched classes and moved her shift at the library to take care of him. He made sure to talk her ears off about what work and every day life without seeing her was like. Sure they texted regularly and called each other, but that didn't feel real enough.

Now, Baby sat in front of her television not expecting to hear a knock at her door.

It was a Wednesday night and it was freezing cold outside.

She got up off the couch and when she opened the door, there Percy was. His cheeks and nose bright red from the cold, blonde hair disheveled and blue eyes bright and clear.

"I missed you.”

His gasped words could barely be comprehended by Baby before he was picking her up in his arms and kissing her.

The sound of the door clicking shut faded into the background as Baby clutched at his shoulders and heard him groan against her lips. The tip of his nose was cold as it brushed against her cheek when he buried his face in the crook of her neck and kissed the skin there.

She thread her fingers into his hair and asked softly, “Are you okay?”

He clutched her tighter and muttered, “Yeah. I'm better than okay.”

♥️

Baby glanced at Percy from across the kitchen counter. His hair had been pulled back into a ponytail with the help of one of her hair ties and his complexion had evened out.

She smiled at his happy expression as he blew cool air onto the soup in his spoon intently before gulping it down.

“Don't you have work tomorrow?” She asked, an amused grin on her face.

Percy nodded curtly, “I'll leave early tomorrow morning to get ready. Shower here before I go.”

She wouldn't say it, but she was happy that he had shown up so abruptly. Now she had an opportunity to speak to him about all the things that had transpired over the past month. All the things that Brielle knew and was kept informed of.

“I'm gonna take a bath now, wanna join me?”

♥️

The scent of her cinnamon bath bomb put her at ease as Percy got comfortable in the bathtub and submerging his upper body in the water. She felt his legs trap her in and laughed at his antics.

“I always leave your apartment smelling like a glamorous girl.” Percy muttered as he stared at her array of body wash and shampoos.

Baby pouted mischievously, “Good, so everyone who comes close will know you're with a glamorous girl.”

A smile spread on Percy's face and his eyes shone in the light of the bathroom.

They exchanged a laugh and then Baby leaned forward and brushed Percy's hair back with a smile.

"I know I don't really tell you much about my feelings or what I'm dealing with,” She gave him a guilty look, “But lately Brielle has been pushing me to be more open.”

Percy said nothing, instead focusing on being present and listening to her. He didn't want her to feel forced or suffocated.

“I don't speak to my mom anymore. It's a recent development.”

For a moment she paused. Looking at Percy, his attentive gaze and the way he leaned into her touch.

This was Percy, kind and caring and gentle. He would never invalidate her feelings or make her think she wasn't important to him. He would never do what her mom always did. After reminding herself of that, she continued.

"I finally found out about my dad and I visited his grave a few weeks ago.”

With Percy's arms around her, and the soft look in his eyes. She told him everything.

And when she was done, he kissed her softly and assured her that he'd be with her no matter what.

She looked into his eyes and murmured, "If I hadn't met you, I would still be with her.”

“So thank you.”
