Chapter Eighteen - Focus
A gush of wind blew through Percy's hair and messed up his freshly tied ponytail. The boy groaned and tried to save some of the wispy strands while he cursed the weather underneath his breath. He needed a haircut, it was long overdue but he was too lazy to get it done.
Too busy fussing over his hair, he didn't hear Baby's front door open and close.
“Morning Percy.” Baby greeted as she slipped into the passenger seat of his car.
A startled breath left him but he covered it up by clearing his throat, “Uh, morning.”
His hands fiddled with a loose strand of his hair and he sighed to himself. Today was not his day. He reached for the key in the ignition but Baby's small and soft hand stopped him.
“I'll help.” She gestured to his hair.
Turning awkwardly in his seat, he asked, “Should I come closer?”
Baby nodded curtly and reached for the tall boys hairband, untying his hair and then threading her fingers through his hair to untangle the strands.
Meanwhile, Percy stared at the girl with a heavy feeling in his chest, he wanted to redo Friday night and hold her close. No ulterior motives, just holding her would be enough.
“Your hair is pretty.” She marveled.
“You're pretty.” Percy murmured.
The girl let out a incomprehensible sound and gently tugged at his hair. She got the curly-wavy strands into a neat ponytail with two pieces framing Percy's face (the way she'd usually do her hair on a lazy day).
Smiling with satisfaction, she pulled a butterfly pin from her own hair and tucked it into Percy's hair, “Take a look.”
Percy pulled away from her and looked at himself in the rear view mirror. He blinked and then a smile tugged at his lips, “This is nice. I like it.” He touched the pin in his hair and turned to Baby.
“Thank you.”

Restless in his chair, Percy turned to stare at Baby who was glaring at her Biology notes with intensity.
Her lips were set in a pout and she hadn't looked away from her book since the class started twenty minutes prior.
“Pssst.” He whispered over to the girl.
She gave him a glance and looked away.
“Hey, Louise... Martin's... Baby.”
Still receiving no response, he looked down at their shared desk. He huffed, boredom was gnawing at his insides.
His gaze flitted around the classroom for a while. Then he heard Baby mumble to herself and returned his attention to her.
“... I don't get this at all.”
She was staring at the phases of hominids with a confused frown.
Percy took his chance and shifted his chair closer to hers, “Want some help?”
The girl looked up at him and nodded slowly, “Please.”
The eager boy leaned over her and started the long explanation of the biological terms and everything else Baby couldn't comprehend.
She looked at him with complete focus, and he liked that. He wanted her to look at him like that more. Focus on him.
