Chapter Twenty - Like
-my babies are back!-
________
Baby laughed at Percy trying to get away from a duck who had taken a liking to him. Apparently the giant boy was scared of ducks and he had blatantly sworn off feeding them with Baby. That was until one of the ducks saw the bread in Percy's hands and decided that Percy was it's new master.
“I hate ducks.” The boy declared as he sat down beside Baby on the purple picnic blanket she had picked out for them.
The picnic spot they had chosen in the park was perfect for what Percy had planned. It was right by the little river that made the park popular and beside a big Red Willow. The tree offered them shade and the river was scenic.
He looked at Baby and felt his heart skip a beat. She had a content smile on her face, her pretty eyes staring at the river with wonder.
“I'm glad you brought me here.” She said. Her face wasn't as happy as her words were, “If you hadn't... I'd probably be alone again.” A sigh left her.
Percy hummed and shifted closer to her on the blanket.
“I don't think my mom likes me...” She mused thoughtfully, and turned to look at Percy with a pout on her lips.
The blonde boy shook his head in disagreement, “No way. No way anyone could dislike you.”
Baby scoffed, “Well she does.” A heavy feeling settled in the girls chest and she felt like crying. She didn't want to cry in front of Percy and be a baby, she had lived with the absence of her mom and dad since she was young and she had been okay. That wouldn't change now.
“If it makes you feel any better... I don't share her sentiments.”
Breathing heavy, the girl let out a weak, "What do you mean?" Before her control had slipped away and she was crying into the sleeve of her dress.
Percy's hand touched her hair, “I mean, I like you...” He pulled her into his chest and lowered himself down onto the picnic blanket, “I like you a lot. Your mom can suck it because she's clearly blind. You're the best person ever.”
Baby continued to cry. Her hands clutched Percy's sides through his hoodie.
“You're lying because you're scared I won't wanna be your friend anymore.” She whined.
The boy laughed and stroked her hair, tangling his fingers through it, “I don't think I want to be your friend anymore.” He admitted.
Baby held him tighter, “But you said you like me!”
Percy shut his eyes for a moment and decided that he'd take the chance of being rejected just to tell her the truth.
“I do like you Louise. I like you so much that I might even love you. I do, actually.”
The girl tensed in his arms and then she lifted her head from his chest and stared at him with tear-filled eyes.
She sniffled and muttered to him, “That's a big L-word... Are you saying that to make me feel better?”
Percy stared at her face, committing the ethereal sight of her to his memory, “No. I mean it.” He stated with conviction.
A wave of fresh tears began to collect in the girls eyes and she wailed softly, “L-Love? Me?”
The boy grinned, “Yeah. Love you.”
Baby gasped and hid her face in Percy's chest, she mumbled, "I think I like you too. Is... Is that okay?”
A genuine smile spread across the boys face, “It's okay.”
