Chapter Sixteen - Cheerleader
“It's nice to finally have a girl to... You know... Exist with.” Baby grinned sheepishly at the red-head in the seat beside her.
Brielle Hardy was at least a head taller than Baby, with naturally fiery red hair, freckled cheeks and pretty blue eyes. She was a quiet girl and only ever spoke much when it was related to something she liked.
“Thanks for inviting me...” The girl shot her a smile back.
Baby felt a bit better about the awkward atmosphere between them and relaxed into her seat.
The crowd behind the girls began to get louder and they both turned to watch the basketball team run out into the court.
Percy took position as point guard and glanced over to the stands and made eye contact with Baby. His serious face morphed as he smiled at her and waved.
The petite girl got to her feet and gave him a thumbs up.
Brielle looked between the pair with a confused pout on her lips.
When Baby sat back down in her seat, Brielle asked, “Are you and Percy... A couple?”
With a little bit too much fervor, Baby replied, “No. Never.”
Brielle looked unconvinced but nodded anyway.
She personally thought the pair would make a cute couple.
♥️
The game had started and both girls were intensely invested. Brielle sat on the edge of her seat completely shocked at how well both teams played. Baby on the other hand was cheering like her life depended on it, being slightly biased because she knew the team captain.
That was probably why neither of the two noticed Colin sluggishly sitting down next to Brielle and frowning at the game in progress.
When the whistle blew for half-time, Baby and Brielle lifted their hands for a high-five in celebration and settled down finally.
“I don't get it.”
Baby let out a squeak and Brielle froze completely.
Colin looked at them with a funny look.
“When did you get here?” Baby sputtered out.
Shrugging, the brunette said unsure, “Maybe ten minutes ago? But I got held up at the entrance.”
Sighing, Baby shook her head at her best friend, “Are you gonna say hi to Brielle or not?”
Colin stuck his tongue out at her childishly, then turned to Brielle, “Sup Hardy.”
Brielle blinked at the boy, as if she couldn't understand what he was saying. His own eyes narrowed at her in confusion.
She lifted a hand and waved, letting out a small 'ha' before looking away from her crush completely.
Colin looked over at Baby and mouthed, 'did I do something?'
Baby rolled her eyes sassily, boys are so... Ugh. She ignored him and looked back at the court. Percy was doing stretches and she couldn't help but marvel at how muscly (was that the word?) he was. Long limbs corded with lean muscle and prominent veins in his arms and hands.
The tall boy smiled at one of his teammates and shook out his blonde hair playfully. All of it started to etch into Baby's head the longer she stared.
The girl blinked out of her random train of thought and huffed in confusion, why was Percy so pretty? He didn't have to be so pretty.
She felt an unfamiliar feeling bubble up in her chest at the sight of Percy and her lips tugged downwards.
What was happening?
