COLIN peered at Baby over his phone, the girl was staring down at her food like it was a nuclear bomb. She clearly had no appetite after their previous conversation. He put his phone down on the table and tried to divert her attention, “Brielle's birthday is coming up soon, I was thinking that we could go halfsies on a gift?”
Baby's reaction was visceral, her eyes rolling and her lips pursing, “You're such a cheapskate,” She leaned back in her chair, “You two share an apartment and last year she bought you some really expensive gifts.”
She looked at her best friend in disappointment.
“Fine, then just help me find something she'll like. I promise I won't look at the price tag.”
Baby nodded, “That's better. She's too nice to you, I think it's about time you do something right.”
♥️
"Quit waiting for her to call and get back to work.” A snarky voice spoke over Percy's shoulder.
The blonde man looked up and flipped his coworker off, “Quit being single and you'd understand why I'm like this.”
Said coworker gasped dramatically, “I should report you to HR.”
“For what? Having a life?”
Before the other man could reply, the two men were interrupted by their boss.
Mr. Oppenheimer stopped by their desks, “You two should be working in a time out corner honestly, Percy, Noah,” He looked at them pointedly, “Stop. Please.” James looked desperate, all too used to the ceaseless bickering from the two boys. At work and at home.
Both boys nodded obediently but were at each other's throat once he left. He sighed when he heard a smack the minute he turned the corner.
Noah, the one who earned the smack glared at Percy, "If I bruise, I am definitely going to sell your furniture.”
Unaffected by the threat, Percy shrugged, “I'll change the locks. You can sleep outside.”
♥️
Noah Banks had been present in Percy's life for the past two years, his familiar sarcastic jests and incessant nagging voice made Percy happy to finally have a best friend of his own. They met at Percy's highschool graduation, where Noah was seen chatting up Baby like the world would end if the girl didn't accept his gesture.
Baby rejected him kindly and Percy tried to play the protective and jealous boyfriend role but Noah somehow ended up chatting Percy up instead.
They had gotten drunk together and in a very bro-mantic way, Noah asked Percy for his number and address so they could meet up the following day.
That was the beginning of the longest migraine Percy would ever experience. He didn't regret a second of their friendship though.
“Are you getting dinner with me or your girlfriend?” Noah asked as he packed his bag into the trunk of his car.
Percy pocketed his phone after checking on Baby and receiving no reply, “Unfortunately, it has to be you. She's probably busy.” He tried to convince himself that he wasn't being ignored.
"Aww, I'll let you open the door for me honey.” Noah winked and grinned triumphantly at the disdainful look on Percy's face.

Baby smiled slightly at the giddy look on Colin's face when he placed Brielle's birthday gift on the backseat of his car. He had a soft spot for the redhead and no matter what he said, it showed.
“She's going to love your gift for her.” Baby said as she buckled herself into the passenger seat. Colin gripped the steering wheel and smiled contentedly.
His smile dimmed when he thought of having to hide the gift for a few weeks.
“Can you keep it with you for a while though? I don't want to spoil the surprise.”
Baby agreed instantaneously.
Their car ride to Colin and Brielle's shared apartment was quiet for a while, then filled with music when Colin turned on the radio.
♥️
Once they were inside the cozy studio apartment though, all silence was relinquished when Brielle saw Baby. Her arms wrapped around the shorter girl, fluffy red hair pulled up in a messy ponytail that slapped Colin in the face as she swayed Baby in her hug.
"Oh, I missed you so much.” She squealed.
Baby accepted the hug earnestly, her face pressed into the soft cashmere sweater of her only female best friend. The familiarity and softness of Brielle made her sigh out in relief.
Colin interrupted their moment with a question, “Is dinner ready?”
Brielle pulled out of the hug to glare at Colin, “It's not, because you don't help me cook. Go set the table idiot.”
Baby watched with wide eyes as Colin, who listened to no one, silently lifted his hands in surrender and scurried off to do as he was told.
Like nothing happened, Brielle pulled on Baby's hand, "Come on, I'll get you a cup of tea and we can talk.”
She tilted her head and smiled warmly, “You look like you need it.”
