Chapter Seventeen - Game

After the game was over, Percy's team being the victors of the match; the little random group made their way to a restaurant. Colin and Brielle sat at the back of Percy's car while Baby sat in the passenger seat in complete confuzzled silence.

She didn't know where all the intensely uncomfortable feelings were coming from but she knew Percy was the reason.

“Hey, what did you think of the game?” Percy struck up the conversation.

Baby smiled weakly, “It was good, you're a great player.”

Percy hummed but noticed how down the girl sounded. Instead of digging for answers immediately, he left her alone for the rest of the ride to the restaurant.

When they got to the quaint home style restaurant, they all filed into a booth. Baby slid in next to Brielle and started talking to the redhead as if the boys weren't there at all.

Colin looked away from Percy and kept himself busy. His head was with Baby and how her entire mood took a total three-sixty the minute they got into Percy's car. He wanted to know what was bothering his best friend.

“—I don't think I've ever seen any girl as pretty as you...” Baby gushed to Brielle.

Brielle shyly fiddled with a menu and smiled at Baby, “Same for me, I was so nervous to talk to you the other day.”

Percy tuned in and out of the girls conversation as they ate and drank their share until the end of the night when Brielle said her mom was expecting her home by 11pm. She called a cab and left.

Colin and Baby sat together now and Percy felt left out.

Baby was obviously avoiding him. And he didn't have the faintest idea what he did that warranted the attitude from the girl.

Alone in Percy's car, the pair sat in silence as Percy drove through the night from Colin's house.

Glancing at her from the corner of his eye, Percy let out a sigh.

“What's wrong?” He asked.

Baby shook her head, “Nothing.”

The boy took a deep breath and exhaled heavily, “Then why have you been avoiding me all night?”

“We've been together all night though...”

Percy grit his teeth in frustration, “Not really. You wouldn't even look my way.” He sighed again.

“I thought I was your friend too.”

A pain started in Baby's chest, and she tried to breathe it away but found that it wouldn't stop. The more she looked at Percy's pained expression, the more she felt hurt.

Her eyes were burning, “I-I'm sorry... For ignoring you. I don't know what's wrong with me.”

Percy looked over at Baby and pulled over on the corner of their street.

Her glossy eyes were looking everywhere but him and he moved in his seat to face her, “Hey, I'm sorry too, for whatever I did to upset you.” The boy reached his hand forward and ruffled her already messy hair.

“Cuddles?”

Baby let out a shaky breath and nodded.

Percy pulled her closer and over the centre console until she was situated on his lap.

She didn't protest as he rubbed her back and leaned back in the driver's seat.

Her heart beat wildly in her chest though, and her face felt like it was on fire. She could feel how tense and big Percy was in comparison to herself. She only now noticed how warm he was and how he smelled like expensive cologne and citrus candy.

Why didn't she notice before?
