Chapter Twenty-Five - Hands

The semester break kicked off and all the seniors sighed a breath of relief. School was intense and the time for rest was much appreciated.

Percy on the other hand, found himself tasked to help his father at work.

“Remind me again why I have to here old man?” He grunted as he wobbled behind his dad in the the elevator, his hands full of boxes filled to the brim with paperwork.

James laughed, “You're an intern here, not my son. If you miss allocated work hours, you're fired before you even get the job.”

“Pretty sure the marketing department doesn't lug paperwork around all day Mr. Oppenheimer.” Percy complained.

A sigh left the older man and he let Percy shuffle out of the elevator first when they arrived at James' office.

“Suck it up Princess.”

That he did. For the rest of his 'work day', Percy exerted his energy doing everything that was asked of him in every department of his father's company. He even helped the Janitor clean the reception area.

Once the young man finally crumpled down on the couch in the common room after knock off, he felt exhaustion wash over him.

Then he started missing Baby. Not that he didn't miss her throughout the day, but texting her in his little breaks during the day wasn't enough. He wanted to hug her and feel her chubby cheeks squish between his fingers when he held her face between his hands. He wanted her to talk his ear off and laugh and smile at him.

He started sulking in the common room and when James walked in to find his son with a sullen pout on his face, he decided to intervene.

“What's got you so miserable?”

Percy shrugged noncommittally, “Nothing I guess.”

James laughed, “You're down bad.”

A sigh left his son and James sat down next to him, “Your first love is always like this... You just can't seem to handle the distance well huh.”

Percy nodded.

“I bet she's thinking about you too, probably wondering what you're doing. Just like you're thinking about her.”

That reassurance was enough to keep Percy happy for the rest of the afternoon until his dad finally decided it was time for them to get home.
