Confessions Pt. 3

________

'I like you too Colin! You're my best friend.'

The boy shook his head, 'No, I meant I like you... I like you more than a best friend should.'

Baby's expression fell, 'The way Percy likes me?'

Colin felt his stomach turn at the way she mentioned the other boy, like she didn't want anyone else to like her besides him. He knew what was coming, and he wasn't willing to hear it from her.

'Yes... But it's no big deal Martin's, just forget I even mentioned anything.' He took in a heaving breath and forced a smile.

Baby looked down at her fuzzy socks with the yellow boats on them.

'I'm gonna go now, I'll see you tomorrow kay? For our Saturday outing?'

He was still hopeful that their friendship would survive this.

'Of course.' The girl chirped and she looked at him with sad eyes as she waved him off to his car.

Cal looked over his shoulder to the lounge and then looked at his little sister, “What's he doing here?”

Brielle tugged at the end of her messy ponytail, “Beats me, he just texted that he wanted to talk."

A hum left the man and he whispered, “Goodluck.”

A grimace made its way onto Brielle's face and she quickly replaced it with a friendly smile before she grabbed the two mugs of hot chocolate she had made and carried them to the lounge.

“Here.” She handed the sulky boy a grey mug.

He took it and said thank you.

“So... What's up?” She started.

Colin peered at her and took a sip of his hot chocolate, he stared blankly at the brown liquid in the cup before he finally said, “I did it.”

She gaped at the brunette and tried to formulate a response. What now?

He interrupted any chance she'd have to console him with a laugh, “I did it. I told her that I like her, as more than a friend... I told her.” His laugh died and then Brielle heard a sniffle and his voice breaking as he confessed, “I don't feel any better, it hurts.”

“Colin...” She reached out for him but he beat her to it by turning abruptly and falling into her arms.

“You were wrong, it doesn't feel better. I don't feel free.” He wrapped his arms around her waist and squeezed.

Brielle was happy she had put her hot chocolate on the coffee table before she sat down because the boy was shuddering against her.

He was crying.

Awkwardly, with her face red with embarrassment, she put her hands on his back and rubbed in circles. Adding a soft tap in between the circular motions.

She let him cry his heart out, and she drifted into her own thoughts.

That she was wrong, and maybe the worst feeling ever to exist was the finality of knowing that the one you love, won't ever love you the way you love them.

But Brielle decided then, with Colin in her arms, that she was okay with that.
