F o r t yBRIELLE'S birthday was coming up and it was a top priority thought in Colin's mind. He spent most of his time making calls in secret and nitpicking at details. Everything had to be perfect for her, just as perfect as she was.
And even though she acted oblivious, Brielle knew what he was up to.
Colin wasn't exactly the best at being sneaky.
She oftentimes gave him the benefit of the doubt just because she hated seeing him sulk.
That particular Thursday morning was a tough day to pretend not to be a little agitated by his constant attention on her.
"What is it?" She groaned out, looking up from her breakfast.
Colin looked like a puppy being scolded, "Uh, sorry. Was I staring?"
Her face nearly matched the shade of her hair and she tried her best not to raise her voice, "Yes. So do you want to ask me something or what?" She grit out.
"Nothing. It's nothing." He brushed off before walking out of the kitchen.
♥️
"Ugh, there's no way to ask her without ruining the rest of the surprise."
Percy stared at Colin blankly, "Have you ever considered the fact that you could ask her after her birthday?"
'Maybe Percy has a point, it would be kind of awkward if she rejected me with all our friends there.' Colin thought to himself with a bit of reservation towards his initial idea.
Then he said, "Maybe I shouldn't at all? I mean, I'm sure I'm not even her type. I am very annoying."
Sighing softly, Percy shrugged and murmured lowly, "Maybe she likes annoying."
The brunette gaped at his friend, "Hey, you can't call me annoying! Only I can do that, and possibly Bri too."
"Fucking simp, just grow a pair and confess already. You have all the time in the world." Percy shot back, rolling his eyes.
"It's not like you live with her or anything like that." He added sarcastically.
Colin sensed the irritation in Percy's tone, pinning it on the fact that the blonde only saw Baby once a week and maybe two weekends in a month. He sympathized with the man.
But he still couldn't bring himself to listen to his advice.
♥️
It turned out that Colin wouldn't have to struggle to talk to Brielle since the redhead approached him first. She sat on the edge of his bed and grinned at him, “Get ready, we're going clubbing.”
“Clubbing..." He looked confused for a moment.
Brielle sighed, “Come on, we need to get out of the house. You especially, you've been spacey as hell.” She gave him a knowing look.
Colin, like most of the people in Brielle's life, gave in to her persistence with ease.
That's why in the next hour or so, he found himself dressed scantily to go to a club while Brielle fixed her hair in the bathroom. He stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror from where he stood leaning against the doorframe.
Her eyes looked fierce with sharp liner and dark eyeshadow, Colin was nearly too scared to look at her for too long. She was beautiful without trying, and when she tried she just became completely out of anyone's league.
Including his.
But instead of wallowing in his own hopelessness, he let her drag him out of their apartment and into his car.
♥️
Bass-heavy music played through the entire club, adlibs of sexual breaths and sweet whispers in between obscene lyrics. Colin wasn't unaccustomed to the sound but still tilted his head in silent questioning of whether he should just ignore the music.
Brielle looked comfortable beside him, her eyes scanning the area calculatively.
When she leaned into him and spoke, he nearly backed away in fear of his own anxiety making him act up but she gripped his bicep and blinked at him as she said, “Come on, I found a spot for us.”
He let her curl her fingers around his wrist and pull him to the back of the club, to a sparsely populated booth with a clear table in front of it.
She slipped down onto the seat and dragged him with her, close enough for their thighs to touch and his hand to brush against her bare arm.
"Relax.” She called loosely and raised her hand up high to call a waiter over.
Colin sighed and decided to focus on something else, “How high end is this place?” He asked. Noting the fact that most clubs in the city, at least the one's his been to, definitely had terrible service. You'd get your own drinks to get wasted or you wouldn't get wasted at all.
“It's not high end, it's just decent.” Brielle brushed off as a waiter approached them.
♥️
After a few fancy cocktails and a snack that Colin definitely did not know the name of, the pair were on the dancefloor together.
But while Brielle seemed distracted, Colin only saw her.
With slight bravado urged on by the alcohol in his system, he leaned into the woman and asked, “Have I told you that you look beautiful tonight? Or ever?”
Brielle looked taken aback but she shook her head, “No. You haven't.”
“Well I'm saying it now. You're gorgeous Bri.” He averted his eyes from her when she smiled. His heart couldn't handle that.
A smooth hand slithered up his chest and clasped the hair at the nape of his neck softly, Colin shuddered underneath her touch. His own hands gripped her waist firmly.
“Why so shy?” She leaned up to whisper to him.
He couldn't say really. When exactly he'd become a mess whenever she spared him a glance or offered a touch, he couldn't pinpoint when he'd fallen for her.
But underneath the dim lighting of the club, with liquid courage in his veins and a voice in the back of his head telling him that if he didn't do something now, he'd never have the chance to again. Colin pulled her in close and brushed his lips gently against hers, eyes half-lidded and staring at her sharp blue eyes blinking shocked at him.
“You do that to me.” He murmured, unsure if she heard him or not but determined to press his lips to hers.
Brielle's free hand palmed his chest, pushing him away but tangling her fingers in his shirt to pull him closer.
Then, without knowing who moved first, their lips met in a heated clash of bitter sweet. Colin groaned softly when Brielle dug her fingertips into his abdomen, his heart pounded and bled heat into every single orafice in his body. His lips parted willingly for hers and he let her taste him fully, his arms trembling even as he pulled her closer.
