- been missing for a good minute... And I arrive with angst -

BABY believed with all her being that her father would have loved her more than life itself. That is, if he were still alive.

Jenna Martin's gave Baby every piece of information she had withheld from her for the majority of her childhood.

That her father had been living in a city two hours away and he had a wife, two sons and a picket fence house. He had been an accountant for most of his life and then a freelance writer for the last of his years alive.

She told Baby that his name was Elijah, and he had no nicknames but people called him by his last name, Carson. That he had never known of Baby's existence until his last days, when Baby had turned fifteen. And he asked to see her but Jenna denied him the privilege.

Deep down, Baby felt anger and resentment towards Jenna. But when she fell into Percy's arms that evening, she felt nothing but despair.

Percy stroked Baby's hair softly, her sniffles had died down hours ago and she just laid in his lap quietly. He knew she was awake because her fingers tangled into the back of his shirt every once in a while and pulled, then lifted to stroke his bare skin.

He held back all his questions and instead distracted himself by opening up his laptop and working despite the fact that Baby occupied his lap.

It was late afternoon when the clicking sound of his laptop keys were drowned out by the front door opening loudly and Noah's voice calling into the house.

"Bitch you're not gonna believe who was talking about you today!”

Noah rushed into the living room and Baby shifted in Percy's lap, readying herself to leave but Percy clutched her tighter and shook his head against her hair.

"It's fine,” He whispered to her. Looking at Noah pointedly, he said, “You can tell me later.”

Noah nodded and left.

“I'm sorry,” Baby murmured against his neck suddenly.

Percy tried to pull away to see her face, but the girl only pressed herself closer to him.

“What for?” He asked finally, an ache starting to build in his stomach at the state of his girlfriend.  He'd been feeling helpless ever since she got into contact with her mother without letting him know, something inside him telling him that she was slipping away into herself.

Baby snuggled closer, her breath warm against his neck, “It feels like lately it's all about me and my problems and not about us. And you're being so understanding.” Her voice faded into a whisper, “I don't deserve you.”
