The clock read 4 a.m. and Taehyung had come to a conclusion.
Miserable feelings of numbness, thoughts somber, world dull and grey, and amongst it all, Taehyung decided that Jungkook was worthy.
Jungkook was worth giving himself to.
After all, what more can Taehyung lose?
Doing the math was easy, and the answer was: not much.
People seemed to love reminding him of his introversion, as if taunting him.
But there was no shame in acknowledging it as Taehyung knew for a fact, he was alone. In his mind, he was.

Back to Jungkook. Let's just say Taehyung looked left and right before crossing the road.
Taehyung knew ignoring the wolf would lead to a lot of pain. He knew and experienced it and that was just a no-no.
Rejecting him however could lead to even more drama. It could lead to death.
Taehyung may be morose, but he was no killer. Believe it or not, he wouldn't even consider being miserable enough to kill his own self. Right?

No, Taehyung didn't flee the pain, he lived with it. He always did. It would slip sometimes through his Goddess forsaken temper and occasionally remind his surroundings of his oh so abnormal behavior, but Taehyung's pain ran deeper than what meets the eye. And yes, it was more sheathed than people originally thought it was.
Though it would appear easy to assume Taehyung was just some slightly deranged, bratty wolf who liked to stay alone and not be messed with—and it was partly true—but the actual reality wasn't that easily interpreted.
Taehyung was more than just a depressive teen.
Taehyung grew up half consumed by a darkness that incessantly grew and that didn't seem to bother going away nor spare the kid. It was there, unmoving, mostly harmless but always looming. Like a sky condemned to an eternal grayness.

Taehyung was the sky. And Jungkook was the small ray of sunshine that didn't have any business lighting the gloomy weather but did it anyways.

Taehyung had to deal with that ray of sunshine. He had to deal with his cloudy sky so the clouds wouldn't unleash a destructive storm; and nurture his sunshine as to not get burned by its brightness.

With that said, Taehyung decided to nurture the bond he shared with the true blood. Jungkook wanted contact right? That's what he was going to get. Taehyung was ready to strip his body bare in front of a stranger. Kiss him, please him and even allow himself to enjoy it the process.
So far, it had been fairly easy.

Taehyung didn't want to play his mate, he simply wanted to play the game. In the chess board that was his life, Taehyung was willing to sacrifice all the pieces in order to protect the king. It was all about the king afterall, wasn't it?
He was willing to lose all that remained of him if it meant the game was still on. Because as long as the game was on, the king was still alive.
Taehyung needed that king alive. He needed his sanity in check and he needed to stay alive somehow.
He needed Jungkook satisfied enough to stop looking deeply for answers even Taehyung didn't know.

And so the brunette was laying on his mattress, naked, crossed arms supporting his head, staring at the dark ceiling.
His mate was softly snoring beside him.

Jungkook can have his body. He can have his physical affection, his undivided attention in the bed, his cries pleasure and his trembling limbs. Jungkook deserved to have some part of him, however small, since he seemed to be so interested and fond of his existence and was resigned to stay by his side.
Jungkook will just never have him.

What he didn't know was that the sleeping figure at his left had already made a plan of his own.

Unbeknownst to the two, the pieces on the chess board had already began moving.

-

"Good morning!"

Taehyung turned into the bed, trying to find a better position but the light coming out of the his window was unnecessarily too bright as well as Jin's cheery voice.

"Wake up, lovebirds. You got classes today."

Taehyung didn't need to turn around to know that Jungkook was already up and moving.
He closed his eyes. He can wake up when all the movement ceased.
Taehyung wasn't mad, he was simply not a morning person. At all.
He would rather wake up to being alone, collecting his own thoughts and clearing his mind before facing the world.

"Tae?"

"..."

Jungkook frowned. He knew the younger was awake, didn't he had classes?
After a minute of reflection, and no apparent answer from the brunette, Jungkook decided it was his time to move along.
After all, he promised himself to only be present in the alpha's life enough to offer him mental and physical support and disappear as soon as that was done.
Clearly he outlasted his stay.
Jungkook silently walked away from the bed, got his hung clothes back before heading to the bathroom.

As soon as he came out of the bedroom, he was face to face with Yeonjun.

"Hi Kook." He announced as if the former's appearance coming out of his cousin's bedroom in the morning was the most normal thing he witnessed,

"Hey, Yeonie. You have classes?"

The blue haired— now slightly faded into a more teal colored hair— was shaking his head furiously.

"No and thank the Goddess. Binnie and I are taking this year off."

Jungkook actually felt jealous. It's not because he was practically good at everything including school that he enjoyed going there and studying.
Classes were as burdensome to him as they were to everyone else.

"Where's Taehyung?"

The ravenette shrugged. Yeonjun threw him a suspicious look.

"I mean weren't you just coming out of his bedroom?"

Jungkook nodded but only stood aside, clearing the way to the said bedroom entrance for the young alpha to see for himself.

"Oh I see." The latter chuckled. "I forgot who we were talking about."

-

After exactly twenty minutes, Taehyung finally got out from the warm bed, made his way to his closet and grabbed one of his night robes, wearing it over his bare and marked body and made his way to the bathroom.
The upper part of the house was empty and clear, exactly what the alpha was looking for. Silent enough for him to exhale the breath he was holding in ever since yesterday in a shaky sigh.
Turning the shower on, he didn't wait for the water to fully heat up before getting under the tap and grabbing his exfoliater and soap. He started scrubbing his skin clean, mind already over analyzing thoughts he wouldn't allow himself to think about in the presence of another soul.

Taehyung was feeling again. The feelings he was experiencing weren't exactly what he wanted them to be.
It was Jimin.
His mind was exploding from random thoughts of his best friend.
The volcano started erupting.
Taehyung's long awaited tears were cascading from his bloodshot eyes, mixing with the water from the shower an disappearing into the drain.
His cries soon turned into full out sobs as his body shook violently from the weight of his emotions.
Taehyung's weirdly contrasting mental states were concerning really. He either didn't feel a thing or felt too much.
He wanted to scream but his silent sobs were caught in his sore throat, mourning the departure of his soulmate.
Why did you have to go, Minnie?
Don't you know that I simply cannot function without you?
I am nothing without your presence.
I am nothing without you.

Taehyung slid down the foggy wet glass wall with a thud. His feet hurt too much to keep the weight of his body standing.

Why did you leave me?

You promised.

You broke your promise.

Just like he broke it.
