Pain was all he knew. Kim Taehyung had no sense of place nor time as he laid unconscious on a hard surface, the insufferable scent of animal waste and extreme heat the only things that accompanied his thoughts.
But they weren't thoughts. They were visions. Endless visions with endless faces all ending in misery and pain. Always pain. No matter how much he tried to fight it off, remove himself, shake himself awake. The pain was a constant.

Taehyung saw the death of his brother too many times to count. Each time felt worse. The horrors his young eyes had seen, locked away from his memory to that of his wolf, were getting crueler every time he saw them again.
Again from the eyes of a teenager. And again from the eyes of the adult he was today.

Baekhyun. Happy, genuine and free spirited Baekhyun. His other half. His twin if the Goddess were kind enough to not separate them by the year that passed between their births. The year which his brother took with persistent seriousness.

"I will protect you." He would say. "I'm one year older, I will always protect you." And protecting he did. Because years and years prior, little Taehyung was in a similar situation. Locked away in a dungeon while his pack was being slaughtered above his head. And Baekhyun gave his life for his younger brother, the alpha of the two.

"You're the alpha Tae Tae. If our pack wins, you must take over."

Baekhyun was the only omega born to the Kim family. And small and scrawny as he was, his bravery was unmatched between his brothers, most of them dead.

Taehyung owed his life to his brother. Because as much as he trashed and sobbed and screamed, he was the only living body that left the underground that one morning after the slaughter.
The two youngest Kim brothers who were thought to have been lost during the battle. Forgotten in a cave while their family was being killed.
Taehyung did survive that day, he did get out of the cavernous prison he was kept in but his eyes saw the remains of a war so bloody it effectively rendered him as dead inside as the body left behind him.

Kim Taehyung survived. But a part of himself will forever remain inside that cave, buried with the memory of his lost twin.

-

Jungkook stirred. The water that was found in the cave at first was poured down the throat of his mate. Every last drop of it, to help his body evacuate the wolfsbane Jungkook had learned they overdosed him with.
Jungkook couldn't really tell if it was a day or a week that passed by. All he knew, was the small intervals where he forced water down Taehyung's sore throat and hoped he survived. The extreme heat and the atrocious odors didn't bother the trueblood any longer. But he made sure to put himself in a near comatose state as well, hoping to conserve the little energy he had until he was ready. For what? You may wonder. Jungkook didn't know.
He did trust his brother to find a way to complete the plan. A plan he didn't entirely believe would work. After all, he didn't get enough time to gather as much before he dashed to his mate's side.

Jungkook had hope. He knew from the careless whispers he heard above him that Alpha Song was becoming restless every time Jungkook assumed he met with the Council. They obviously planned for Jungkook to surrender to them once he didn't find his mate and the pain was nearly killing the pair.
The fact that neither Lupus nor Bangtan came knocking on their door and offered some kind of truce started to bother the Council who planned meticulously for this to happen.
The closeness of Jungkook and Taehyung offered them immunity from the mate bond's pain. And if Alpha Song was anything like the coward Jungkook knew him to be, it would be any day now that he'll get Taehyung from down here and set him free, either severing their initial plan with the Council, or making another one.
Jungkook could only pray that whatever his brother was planning alongside his mates would be timed well. He hated to imagine what would occur if they decided to fetch his mate from his side. Jungkook doubted even his trueblood powers would be of any help against warrior wolves now that he spent Goddess knows how much time without any food or water. His body was already starting to shut off. They were running out of time.

-

"I expect you have a plan in mind?"

Silence answered his query for a moment before the device picked out an answer.

"We do."

Yoongi looked over his younger mate as he was sitting before him, attentively listening to the conversation, his leg moving up and down.

"Alright. Let's do this."

-

Taehyung felt the end come before he knew he did. Call it intuition or eventuality but he did. The first louder sound than his thought was a deafening bang. And then the screams ensued.
He had barely the time to feel his limbs before he stopped feeling gravity and two hands were grabbing him securely around his neck and knees. Panic was easily determined from the tension of his muscles and the scrunching of his still close eyes, but his wolf was oddly calm. Calm enough for Taehyung to unclench his muscles and trust his guts.
He knew the fast harsh movements and the incessant screeching weren't a good sign but he didn't move or try to put up a fight. Somehow, he felt like doing so would just make the situation, whatever it was, even harder.
So he sat still.

-

Jungkook didn't know what he was waiting for. Or if he even was waiting for something. Desperation had crawled deep within him but he had refused to succumb just yet. He didn't have enough force nor did his mate so he knew breaking them out before receiving help would only end in their capture again. Or their death. Goddess knew the council would stop at nothing to get their way. So he waited. And waited. And the wait seemed unending, feeding his misery and dimming the light of hope from inside his heart.
Until he heard it loud and clear. The sound was less of a shock and more of a wake up call to the true blood. He remembered the scream of a fight from his days of training well enough for it to reach him and shake him to his feet. It was  the howling of Bangtan's warrior wolves. The fight had just began its physical aspect, and even if he didn't know what was going exactly, he knew it was enough for him to split into action. So Jungkook took as much of a deep breath as he could in the secluded dark area and carefully gathered his mate between his arms. Jungkook breathed again once, twice and then the trap door was broken down and the first breath of fresh air was a heightened dose of energy. He carefully but steadily got up the creaking stairs and then the starry night sky filled their vision.

They were out.
