He smelled him way before the lean figure appeared on the doorway and stopped in its tracks.
He smelled them both, his alpha senses sharper than ever.
To say that Taehyung was surprised was an understatement. He knew Jungkook didn't come close to the clinic once since they broke out of Song's pack. He didn't ask himself why, after all, he knew the reason.
And even after the smell of him stirred something deep within the alpha's gut, a consequent part of him debated wether or not the black haired would enter at all. It seems he could even sense the dread and the hesitation on the other as well. He wondered if Jungkook could smell the anticipation and dread on himself too. After all, the bond between them hummed of life even after being unconsumed for so long.Like two magnets, Taehyung's eyes rose and locked on Jungkook's ones as soon as the true blood raised his head in his direction, door behind him closed but still only two step inside the room.
Taehyung didn't know what else to do except stare and stare into the galaxies that were so dim compared to when he first witnessed them inside his mate's eyes. The latters just stared back into his, an unsettling feeling of comfort humming between them. Unsettling because the last time the two of them were conscious, tension was so thick with everything that happened between them that normalcy seemed so far away. Comfort because at last their wolves were happy to be together in the same room without the survival instinct overwhelming everything like when they were trapped.
So that was it, unsettling comfort. And none of the boys seemed to want to move passed it.
But the need to do something, say something was more pressing than the staring contest.
"How are you feeling?" Jungkook asked as he broke eye contact, looked around a bit awkwardly, made a few more steps, hesitating between the bed and the chair before settling on the latter with renewed resignation.
Taehyung just followed him with his eyes until he sat down. "I'm good." He swallowed. "You?"
Jungkook's head shot up to his as if taken aback by the interrogation, not expecting it. His eyes raked over his mate's face, frail body under the crisp white sheet before nodding his head twice. Unaware that even if Taehyung's eyes weren't on him, he still felt his. But he didn't see the nod and Jungkook appeared to notice it as well as he cleared his throat and said "I'm good."
Long minutes of silence stretched between them for a moment after that, each boy avoiding the other. Till it got to the point where the tension got too suffocating and Jungkook broke first. Taehyung wasn't surprised, the true blood was always the more sensitive of the two.
"I came here to check up on you."
"I know."
More silence.
"And you're doing good so I'll get going now." Jungkook huffed and got up swiftly this time, not looking back as he made towards the door.
"Okay."
Jungkook stopped. Mere inches from the doorknob, back stiff.
"That's it? Okay?" He repeated, incredulous.
Taehyung evaluated him for a moment before shrugging. "I'd offer you some chocolate but Jimin ate it all."
Jungkook whirled so fast the other wondered how he didn't get dizzy and in a flash, the true blood was hovering over him.
"Are you fucking serious, Taehyung?" The words were uttered behind his teeth, a snarl forming on his lips. "Are you fucking serious?" He repeated. Somehow that made the alpha gulp.
So that's where this was going.
