Sophie's POV
I sat back in my seat as I watched the city lights pass by me in a blur. I was still in shock with what I saw and was trying to think of every scenario possible as to why he was doing what he was doing. Maybe it was bad timing with the picture and it looked a lot worse than what it really was, maybe it was just some kind of misunderstanding and I was overreacting for nothing. But the look in his eyes, there was no faking that look. I had seen that before, several times up close. There was no denying that the look he was giving her was definitely the look that he wanted something to happen and was going to do whatever it took to make it happen.
I felt a rage of emotions surge through me, starting to wonder why I wasn't enough for him all of a sudden. Wondering why he felt like he had to go to another girl to get something that I would have given him whenever and wherever he wanted. He clearly knew what he was doing too, you don't just take your wedding band off when your at a party like its the normal thing to do. He had a plan and at the moment the plan didn't include being faithful to his wife.
"Do you have any liquor at your house?" I asked, rolling my head on the headrest as I looked over at her, a smile tugging at her lips as she looked over at me quickly before focusing her attention back on the road.
"It's going to be one of those nights is it?" she asked with a laugh as she stopped the car carefully at a stop light.
"It is, because if not I am going to cry myself to sleep all night and right now I don't want to give that asshole an ounce of my tears" I said with a laugh as I saw my phone light up in my duffle bag. I had half a mind to bend down and see who it was, but decided that I didn't want to let him sweet talk me into coming home. I didn't want to be near him, especially since I didn't know how far he went with that girl tonight. The last thing I wanted was to be sloppy seconds after he was all over her.
"Your wish is my command darling" she laughed, taking a right at the stop light as we made our way to the closest liquor store. We pulled into the parking lot and quickly got out, heading straight for the whiskey, my liquor of choice when I wanted to drown out everything and just float in happy bliss and forget that the world existed around me. "Going hard tonight huh?" Lauren asked as she stood next to me letting me pick my poison without complaint even though she knew she was going to be indulging in it to, however to a much less extent.
"I just need to forget, I need to get that picture out of my head. I need to get him out of my head" I said grabbing a bottle of Jameson Caskmates and started heading towards the counter. I looked over to see her scrunching up her nose in protest only slightly as I let out a chuckle and sat it carefully down on the counter.
As usual I was asked to produce my ID to be sure that I was indeed old enough to be purchasing the liquid that would undoubtedly get my drunk after just a few shots, but also serve as a anesthetic for my mind putting it to sleep just long enough where I didn't have to think about Austin and every shitty thing he has done to me since I've been home.
I grabbed the brown bag off of the counter, giving the clerk a warm smile as I headed out the door back towards Lauren's car. I waited just long enough until the liquor store was fading from our view before twisting off the cap. "Cheers" I said, holding up the bottle as I brought it to my lips taking a long swig, grimacing as I felt the liquid burn the back of my throat but loving every bit of it at the same time. This was an all too familiar feeling that I haven't done in a very long time, thoughts of my dark past creeping up on me.
"Listen, I'll let you indulge yourself in your liquor tonight, but after this it's no more of this shit. We can't be going back down that road Sophie" she said to me giving me a stern look when she realized where this might lead. I nodded my head and gave her a mock salute as I held the bottle out to her.
