She nestled herself back against my chest, her head resting comfortably on my shoulder as I leaned my palms back on the rocky surface of the mountain holding myself and her up as we looked out over the city comfortably sitting in each other's silence. I would every so often sneak a kiss onto the side of her temple as she would look up at me with her perfect brown eyes, the sun glistening off of them perfectly even though they were shaded with the brim of my hat. I couldn't help but smile at her as she looked up at me, she was every bit as perfect now as she has been since the day that I met her.
"Sophie" I said quietly as she turned her head back to rest on my shoulder, the fingertips of her right hand slowly grazing over my right thigh over the thick fabric of my jeans.
"Yeah baby?" she asked sweetly, her index finger taking control as it started to draw small hearts against my thigh, a small chuckle leaving my lips as I watched her.
"I love this so much baby girl. You and me just being together, happy in each other's company. This is perfect" I said to her, resting my head against hers as we continued to gaze out over the city, the slight breeze sending the sweet smell of her perfume to tickle my nose, my eyes closing as I savored the scent.
She was quiet for a moment, my mind racing as I was wondering what she was thinking when I finally heard her soft sweet voice, "I love this too baby. This reminds me so much of our nights in Italy when we just sat with each other on the balcony looking over the bay until we fell asleep in each other's arms" she said, tilting her head to look at me as my gaze floated down to look at her.
"You know what else I loved about those moments Sophie?" I asked her as she pushed herself up from my chest, turning around to face me as she kneeled what look to be uncomfortably on the stony ground underneath her to look at me.
"What's that Austin?" she asked with a beautiful giggle, her white teeth gleaming under the shade of my hat that she never fixed to fit her head correctly, the hair sticking out from beneath it flowing beautifully in the breeze.
"You being you. The happy, sexy, amazing woman that I married" I said to her, my left hand coming up as I pushed a piece of hair from her face that was stubbornly sticking to her eyelashes, my thumb grazing against her soft cheek before we both leaned in to connect our lips together for a second time. The moment her lips touched mine, I knew there was something different about this kiss, it felt more natural it felt like I was kissing the girl I had grown accustomed to, the flame inside of her seeming to burn just a little brighter as I felt like she was coming back to me slowly.
She broke away from the kiss after a few minutes, her gaze becoming anxious as she looked at me, "Austin I love you so much. I don't care what has happened, it doesn't change the fact that I love you and I'm sorry I'm going a little crazy" she said, her hands coming up to her head as she shook it back and forth, her eyes closing as she let out a nervous laugh.
"Hey baby, look at me beautiful" I said, placing my index finger under her chin as I tilted her head up to look at me, my left hand slowly removing my hat from her head giving me better access to every feature of her face, her eyes slowly fluttering open as she looked at me. "You don't need to apologize to me okay? You wouldn't be going crazy as you say if I didn't do what I did" I said, my heart beating rapidly as I had a feeling I knew what question was going to come next.
"Can I ask you why Austin? I know I might have already but I don't remember" she said, her eyes drifting towards the ground between us as she bit her bottom lip almost as if she was ashamed of the reason why she couldn't remember.
I took a deep breath, my right hand brushing through her light brown locks, that I was extremely glad I had got her to change her mind about dying, as I tried to put together the best answer I could without ruining the amazing progress I had seemed to make within just a few hours. I gently grabbed each side of her face in my hands, connecting my eyes with hers as I started to explain it to her.
