Chapter 12: Pay Attention, Kurokos Basketball
Word Count: 1280These past few weeks, the usual happy and cheerful [name] hadn't been feeling like himself. His smile had turned into a frown and his positive persona had turned negative.
Why?
Well, when your boyfriend treats you as second best, it tends to bring a persons mood down. Why of all people did he choose to fall for a guy who was obsessed with a new object every other day? An object that would take up all his attention. It wasn't fair and [name] couldn't let this go on any longer. He didn't want to be in his sad slump anymore. He was going to get his boyfriends attention one way or another and he was going to make him regret not paying attention to him in the first place.
He just had to think of a plan.
"What are you thinking about?" He jumped in his spot and gasped lightly when he saw Momoi was only a few inches away from his face. She giggled playfully and sat down next to him. "You must of been thinking hard. You didn't pay attention to me until I was inches away from you. We probably looked like we were going to kiss." She continued to giggle.
"You do know I'm gay, right?"
She waved her hand at him. "Of course I do. That's why I chose you to be my best friend."
"That's offensive." He mumbled, putting his head down on his crossed arms and groaning.
She pouted and pat him on the back. "What's got my best friend so down? Come on, I can help. I give great advice!"
"You wouldn't know about this." He replied and for the next five minutes, he listened to her ramble on about how good she was and how he should just trust her. On and on she went that [name] ended up shouting her name to shut her up. "I'm having problems with Midorima, okay!"
She shut her mouth quickly, seeing a darker cloud appear above his head. "Oh? Why didn't you tell me? I'm an expert when it comes to relationships. I mean, me and Kuroko have been together for so long now."
"You and - I'm sorry to say this Momoi, but I don't think he knows you're dating each other." He mumbled.
"Because you're my friend, I'm going to pretend you didn't say that." She narrowed her eyes at him. "Now, what exactly is wrong with you and Midorima?"
He pursed his lips and sat his head up, going into a long rant about his relationship problems and how he didn't feel as if Midorima was paying enough attention to him. Momoi sat quietly and listened, taking in ever word he was saying. "Our relationship was so good at the start but now... it's like he's bored of me and that's why he pays all his attention to those stupid objects."
"I know just what you have to do." She clapped her hands together excitedly. "We need to give you a makeover! You've had the same old, boring look since we were kids. It's time to switch it up a bit. Starting with that mop." She pointed at his head.
He lifted his head to his curly brown hair. "But... I've always had this hairstyle."
"That's the point." She stood up and gripped onto his arm. "It's got to go."
"Now?!" He questioned frantically, feeling her drag him through the yard. For a small girl, she sure was strong. "But what about class?!" He looked back towards the school. He wondered if Midorima would notice he was missing.
"School is not as important as this! Get your priorities straight!" She yelled at him and flicked him on the forehead. "Now, stop resisting. We're going whether you like it or not."

"Why did I let you do this to me?" [name] asked, an expression of horror covering his face as he stared at himself in the mirror. The once shaggy, brown hair was now a short pink and instead of his usual baggy clothes, he was wearing a tight, white shirt and jeans. "I look like an idiot!"
"Hey, now we match." Momoi squealed excitedly, holding onto his arm. "We could pass for twins now."
"I'm going to kill you!" He growled.
"Just wait until Midorima sees you. You'll be thanking me then." She huffed and crossed her arms, not amused with how ungrateful he was being. She spent her whole afternoon to make him look like this and he couldn't even pretend to like it? The audacity.
"That's it. I'm going home." He threw his arms up in frustration and left.
He stomped his way down the sidewalk, his face red with embarrassment. He really did think he looked like an idiot. He wished he had a hat to cover his new pink hair. How could she do this to him?
A honk came from behind him and he gritted his teeth. "Don't honk at me, jerk!" He screamed, spinning around to glare at the car, only to see that the car was very recognisable. "Oh, no." He could have cried right there and then.
Midorima had pulled up beside him, looking at him with a monotoned expression. "Momoi called. Said you needed a ride home. Get in."
His hatred for the girl grew even more. He stuck his head up and got into the car. Midorima drove off. "Go on. You can say it." He mumbled, leaning his head against the window.
Midorima glanced at him. "Say what?"
"How much I look like an idiot and how disgusted with me you are." He shook his head and dragged his hand down his face. "God, I can't believe I did this. All so my boyfriend would pay attention to me." He said before he realised what he was saying.
"Wait... you dyed your hair and changed your clothes... because I wasn't paying enough attention to you?" The basketball player questioned in confusion.
"Pathetic, right?" [name] paused. "Can you please just take me home?"
But instead of continuing on, Midorima pulled over to the side of the road. "You're not satisfied with the amount of attention I give you?"
"Come on! You can't be serious. You're always focusing on your special objects. So, Momoi said if I changed myself, we could go back to how we were. When we first started dating... when you couldn't focus on anything but me. If you're bored with me and want to break up, just do it already. Stop stringing me along."
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry for what? Breaking up with me?"
"No. I'm not breaking up with you. I'm sorry I haven't been treating you right. I did not mean to upset you or neglect you." Midorima leaned over and ran his fingers through his lovers now short hair. It was different but not bad. "And I'm sorry you felt like you had to change to please me. I love you just the way you are."
[name] felt a weight lift off his shoulders and he sighed in relief. "You really mean that?"
"Yes." Midorima moved his hand from his hair to his thigh and squeezed it lovingly.
[name] put his hand over his and leaned back in his seat with a relieved laugh. "Does that mean I can dye my hair back to normal."
Midorima hummed. "I don't think so. You do look adorably cute with pink hair." He pat his thigh.
"Oh, shut up." [name] replied, looking back out the window with a large smile on his lips.
