Everyone has fears, and despite Paris's heroine courageous reputation, she was not an exception. "I hate thunder," Marinette muttered, tensely gripping the edge of her bed sheets. At the sight of a slight irregularity in light or sound, she would duck her head under the covers as if it could protect her from the madness outside.

Tikki was seated on her headboard, dozily watching raindrops race down the window. Whenever Marinette would flinch or squeak, she could only offer a sympathetic look. "I know you do," Tikki sighed, floating over to rest on the quivering sheets Marinette disappeared under. "Unfortunately, thunderstorms have to be waited out." A muffled huff emanated from the sheets, but silence followed.

Marinette was uncertain how long she had stayed in the safety of her bed, but it was long enough for her to form a ravenous appetite. I wish I could just fall asleep, she thought, knowing if that were possible that she would not feel hungry nor scared; however, she also realized that the reasons why she could not fall asleep were her hunger and fear.

The moment Marinette began to contemplate yanking her hair out from her stomach grumbling at the lapse of each minute, she decided to stand up and make some food downstairs. The thunder was increasing with every passing minute, so sooner was better than later. When she shot up and shoved her sheets off, Tikki was launched with them. She squawked like a frightened bird, and Marinette laughed, "I did not know you could make that noise."

Tikki rolled her eyes. "You could warn me next time you pull a stunt like that." She shifted through the abundance of sheets before deciding to float through them.

"Sorry," Marinette apologized, but her sincerity was difficult to see with a wide smile on her face.

As she stood up and stretched her legs out, Tikki floated up toward her. "Where are you going?"

"Downstairs to get some food," Marinette nonchalantly replied before yawning. She stretched her arms above her head and wearily trudged toward the door.

Tikki urgently zipped toward her. "Are you sure you are okay? You have been shaking for a while," she said like a doting mother.

Marinette shook her head and continued to the exit. "I will be fine," she dismissed. "Do you want anything?" She added before exiting, and when she saw Tikki shake her head, she shut the door.

Being alone was completely different, but Marinette attempted to convince herself she was alright. "You're okay. You're okay. You're okay. You're okay," she repeated, as she trudged down the stairs only to meet darkness. There was not a single light on or hint of motion, so her parents were most likely asleep.

As she journeyed to the kitchen, she made sure to swivel her stance in case a monster looming in the shadows might pounce, but she was easily able to flip the light switch on the wall. She wiped her brow and laughed. "This is ridiculous," she laughed. "Nothing is scary."

BOOM! Another earthshaking sound left the sky, then a streak lit up. Marinette was shaking. With less confidence than previously, she whispered, "Nothing is scary."

Despite her pattering heart and urge to sprint upstairs to the safety of her covers, she opened the fridge. The fluorescent light illuminated the kitchen tiles, as she carefully scanned for the perfect late-night snack. This will do, she thought, grabbing a box of tea powder from the back of the shelf. She was barely able to retrieve on the balls of her feet. As she examined the box, she guessed it was expired, but tea tends to help with stress.

She hummed dozily to attempt to distract herself from the sounds outside. The irresistible smell of freshly brewed tea slightly settled her nerves and stopped her shaking, but she decided to stay near the stove and light. DING! Another sound echoed throughout the room. "Ouch!" Marinette squealed, accidentally brushing the pot. "Hot! Hot!" She puffed and rushed over to turn the sink faucet to place her hands under the falling water. As she cooled her hand off, she sighed and realized the sound was different from the thunder. Someone was at the door.
