Marinette's P.O.V.
"What is going on?" I asked to my apparent smirking date sitting across the table from me.
Adrien shrugged, as his smirk morphed into a smile matching that of a kid in a candy store. "I don't know what you mean," he said. "This is the blind date."
"Uh huh," I said, unimpressed. I shifted to rest my elbows on the table in a more comfortable position, examining Adrien for any traces of a joke. "I don't believe you."
The second the words left my mouth Adrien frowned. "Why not?"
"You don't like me," I said in a matter-of-fact way. Hearing those words spoken out loud in my voice caused a painful twist in my heart.
A few months prior to this, I confessed, and Adrien said that he did not return my feelings. It took a while for my broken heart to mend, but eventually, it did and we became better friends from it. However, I made a mental note to myself from then on that I was not going to believe Adrien if he ever confessed to liking me, even if he showed signs of it.
I had always seemed to jump to conclusions and have wishful thinking, which tended to get me in trouble. I had already had a broken heart because of the boy sitting in front of me.
I'm not going to let my hopeless romantic heart fool me again.
"Maybe you don't know me," Adrien said.
"Adrien, I know you," I replied, "and I know that you don't like me."
However, Adrien did not say anything. I stared into his green eyes, examining them for even the slightest trace of insincerity.
My heart fluttered, as I was hypnotized by the bright green pigment. Before I could even process that there was indeed no deceitfulness, he broke into my thoughts.
"I'm serious, Marinette," he said in a softer and mature tone.
His calm gaze seemed to burn into mine, and I could not help but look away. My face was heating up. Don't you dare blush, Marinette! Don't you dare!
"Are you blushing?"
You had one job.
"No," she answered in a swift and defensive tone.
Adrien raised his hands above his head in defeat and laughed heartily. "Just a question," he chuckled before his voice became more serious again. "I do mean it though, Marinette. I like you, but maybe I just didn't know you well enough when you confessed to realize how amazing you truly are."
Yeah, that mental note about not falling back in love with Adrien?
I may have to let that go.
"So, can we give it a try?" Adrien offered, looking down. His blonde hair fell in front of his face, as he refused to look at me.
"Who's blushing now?" I laughed.
Adrien looked up with a pout, but he soon started laughing too. Wow, I love his laugh.
"I'd love to give it a try though." I said, making his eyes glow in excitement.
"Really?" He said in disbelief.
"Yes," I chuckled at his reaction.
Adrien smiled then looked to his side to see a waiter approaching them.
"So, how about we have our first date right now?"
