Lila walked down the hallways, whispers echoing as she passed. It had only been two days since the whole Volphina incident, but this was the first day she had been back at school. Just as she had expected, her being akumitized was still fresh in everyone's minds.
Gosh, Lila thought helplessly, fiddling with her fingers while walking into her homeroom. I've barely even been at this school for less than two weeks, and I've already created a reputation for myself:
liar.Lila sat down in her designated seat, and almost immediately the teasing followed. "Oh, look who showed up, Sabrina!" Lila heard Chloe yell in her naturally shrill voice.
Lila scanned the classroom. Usually when Chloe began to bully someone, Alya or somebody would stand up and confront her, but this time, nobody made a move to do anything about it. Lila looked down at Adrien, who was also looking at her with an unreadable gaze, but the moment they exchanged glances, Adrien whipped back around to face his desk.
Lila sighed, and looked down at her fiddling fingers on the desk. I guess I just have to take it, she gave up and began to block out Chloe until she was a distant, muffled voice. I don't want to add onto the bad reputation I already have.
Just as she started to feel water well up in her brown eyes, she heard someone open the door and start to speak. "Leave her alone, Chloe," the feminine voice demanded coldly.
Marinette?
Lila looked up to see the bluenette confronting Chloe in the front of the class. She had on her usual clothing - pink skinny jeans, a white shirt, and a black jacket. Everyone's eyes were on them, eating up the tension between the two girls.
"Why should I, Marinette? She basically lied to every single one of us," Chloe explained, making Lila's stomach drop in defeat. "Also, did you see how she treated Ladybug?"
Marinette's eyes narrowed into a challenge. "Well, you can't judge someone on how they treat others, can you?" She replied casually. She was obviously enjoying every second of teasing Chloe, because a wide smile was plastered on her pale face.
Chloe's blue eyes went wide before turning to narrowed slits. "Humph!" She scoffed then walked over to her desk, and plopped down by Sabrina.
Lila watched it all happen with her eyes wide, but she felt a wave of panic overtake her when Marinette turned to look at her. Her blue-bell eyes seemed to burn into her brown ones, not in anger or hostility like before but with a new emotion - happiness, maybe?
The bluenette completely ignored everyone's gaze following her. She even ignored Adrien's, when she usually melted when the blonde even looked in her direction. Lila was so focused on everyone else, she didn't realize Marinette was right in front of her.
"Hello, Lila," the bluenette chirped. "Sorry about that." Lila heard Chloe give off another scowl, when she heard how Marinette had described her.
Lila stared in wonder at the girl in front of her for the longest time, before finally remembering she had to reply. "No, it's fine," she answered then said in a quieter voice. "I'm used to it by now."
"And you shouldn't be," the bluenette said, startling Lila once again. She didn't know Marinette had overheard her. "Nobody should go through what you go through." When she said this, many of the students shrunk in their seats, as they were guilty of the things she was saying.
"Thank you," Lila began. "I really appreciate it."
Marinette nodded to show acknowledgement of her thanks. "So, I was wondering, would you like to be my friend?" She extended her hand, showing her palm. Lila stared up at her in complete shock. When the brown-haired girl didn't answer after a short while, Marinette asked again. "So, what do you say, Lila?"
Lila grinned up at Marinette. It was the first time she had smiled ever since she had been akumitized. "Yes, I'll be your friend," she answered, taking hold of Marinette's hand.
