The bluenette looked up to see Chat Blanc staring down at her in utter horror. His eyes faltered to show an emotion Marinette couldn't pick out or name. "Chat Blanc," she hissed in defiance, letting rage control her actions. She felt a part of her die, as she said her partner's new name he had given himself. It felt like the memory of Adrien and Chat Noir had died the moment she said the newly-found name.
Chat Blanc's knees wobbled beneath him. "Hawkmoth, I can't do it," he whispered in a desperate voice. "I can't take the miraculous - at least, not hers." As Marinette realized what he said, she felt a glimmer of hope stir in her stomach. Maybe there is some Adrien left in him...
Marinette looked on, as Chat Blanc talked to himself, communicating with Hawkmoth. You fool! The voice in Chat Blanc's mind echoed, bouncing inside his head to the point where it hurt. How dare you betray me! She's just some girl!
Chat Blanc's eyes widened at what Hawkmoth had called Marinette, then narrowed to slits. "She's not just some girl," he growled. "She's Marinette, my partner and most importantly, my friend. She showed me what it's like to have friends, and I can never repay her for that." His fists were clenched, vibrating with rage.
"Fine, but I will get your miraculous one day," the voice hissed once more, before completely disappearing again.
Everything went completely silent. Oddly, it was a comfortable silence. It was all over. They didn't have to worry anymore.
Marinette was panting, feeling faint and nauseous, as she stared at the concrete. The world wobbled beneath her. "I'm sorry," she heard a masculine voice say. Looking up, the bluenette discovered it was Chat Blanc. "I'm so, so sorry," he repeated, but it sounded like he was trying to reassure himself more than his comrade.
The bluenette didn't acknowledge his apology - in fact, she didn't do anything. She just sat there, on the cold and wet ground, staring up at her partner. A flash of green went over Chat Blanc, and he was now replaced as Adrien - the boy Marinette had longed to see again ever since this whole scene started.
After lots of staring, Marinette finally realized that everything was going to be alright. He's back, she thought joyously, as she stared in utter shock yet wonder. "It's okay," was all she could muster in a small whisper.
Without any warning, Marinette leapt up from her spot on the floor, and nearly hurtled herself into her partner, overwhelmed with happiness. Hot tears began to resurface in her eyes, like they had a few minutes ago, but they were different now - they were happy tears. "You're back!" Marinette cheered in glee, wrapping her arms around Adrien's neck and pulling him into a tight hug. "You're back," she whispered now, feeling her strength drain out of her now that she knew everything was alright.
Adrien had wide eyes, before he hugged the bluenette back too. "Yeah," he whispered softly. "I'm back."
After a minute of hugging, when they finally released, Adrien exteneded out his closed hand to Marinette. The girl looked down at it, slightly confused, before he opened his hand to reveal what was inside it. It was Marinette's most prized possession - her miraculous.
When Marinette moved her hand slowly and took them, they lit up with a warm red glow in her hands. Meanwhile Adrien's ring began to light up with a hauntingly green glow. "Are you ready?" Marinette asked, gripping her miraculous in her hand. She was ready to go get Hawkmoth, and finish the whole thing.
"Yeah," Adrien replied. He grabbed Marinette's hand, that didn't hold her miraculous, and they exchanged knowing glances.
"I'm ready for anything, as long as you're with me."
