"Ready to go, Adams?" Natasha asks, handing my some sort of ear piece.
"What's this?" I ask.
"It's so you could communicate with us, or hear us." She explains. I nod, and put it on.
She walks over to where the rest of the Avengers were suiting up. Everybody looked so prepared.
Was I?
I follow her, looking ready as can be.
"Don't worry, we'll get him back. Ready?" Steve asks, putting on his helmet.
"Yeah." I answer. Honestly, I couldn't tell whether that was the lie or the truth right now.
"Then let's find him." Thor says.
...
"Adams, can you hear me?" Starks asks, and I could hear him through this ear piece.
"Loud and clear." I answer.
Currently, Loki and I stood behind a building. Of course, it wasn't the best spot to wait for now. But, where else would we go?
"Alright, kid. Be ready. Arrow man will send his signal from above." He says, as I look up at the roof. I could see him looking down.
"So, how does this work? How do you turn into, well, me?" I ask Loki.
"Simple, like this." He says, literally transforming into me before my eyes.
"This is so weird." I mutter.
"And you're quite shorter than I thought." He chuckles.
"Oh, shut up and pay attention."
He smirks, and looks up at Clint, waiting for him to send a signal.
According to Stark, he'd send the signal at exactly 10:30pm.
Right now, it was 10:29, according to the watch I was given.
3...2...1..
10:30pm.
And just like that, an arrow lands beside me. There was the signal.
Quickly, I make my self invisible, and follow Loki.
It was really weird seeing him look like me.
Like, honestly, what kind of witchcraft is this? The world has really changed since I could remember. He makes his way to the back of the building, that I had led him to. There was a back door that was always guarded.
It'd be the perfect rescue, I hoped.
I stood next to him, as he walked up to the back door. In an instance, multiple guns were pointed at him. And me, since I was technically standing next to him.
"Is this the girl?" One of the men asks.
He steps closer to him, looking him up and down.
"Looks like her." Another answers.
"Take her to him."
And just like that, he's pulled away from my side. He looks back at me, and winks. I hope he knows what he's doing.
I wait till all of the men had entered the building. And just when the door was about to close, I stop it. There were multiple locks on this door, so I couldn't just get in and out if it easily.
I grab a rock, and stick it between the door. It wasn't too noticeable, I guess.
"I'm in." I whisper into the ear piece, when nobody is near me.
I follow the men that had Loki, as quickly as I could. I had to be sure not to bump into anyone.
If I did, it'd just prove that I was here, and invisible.
People don't just bump into air.
"Rogers, get yourself inside and don't make a scene. Take down some of the guards in your way." I hear Tony say.
"Romanoff, let yourself in a different way. Your goal is to hack Hydras technology, and get it to stop working."
"Point-break, make a scene when I say so. For now, just get inside and help Rodgers"
I listen to Tony, as he explains what everybody else has to do. I'm pretty sure I knew what I had to do.As I walk down multiple halls, following Loki, I begin to recognize it all. I hated it here. I didn't like being back here. It reminded me of too much.
The dim lit hallways, and the concrete floors.
The stone walls, and the smell of blood.
It disgusted me.I notice, as Loki's being dragged, guns are still aimed at him. At any moment, he could be shot. That is, if he resisted. Which he wouldn't do.
He couldn't resist.
It could possibly screw up everything, if he tried to.I quickly follow the men, and Loki, into the room that I remembered so clearly.
Too clearly.
The machine didn't look like it was set up, but it was the room.. the room that all my memories were taken away from me.
At least there was no sign of Bucky in here.
But as Loki looked at the machine he knew, from seeing my memories, his eyes filled with horror.
Well, technically my eyes, but you get the point.
"Sit down." A man demands.
And he does.
He couldn't not do it.
There were, in total, 4 men in the room currently.
I didn't recognize a single person.
They strap Loki to the seat, but don't do anything else. They just wait. And I could take a wild guess on who they were waiting for.
I whisper, carefully, into the ear piece, "Best hurry up with finding Barnes. We gotta get out of here quickly, before he shows up."
"He? Your father?" Tony asks.
"Mhm."
"Alright, I'm bursting through the walls."
Oh my God, I swear. If he bursts through the walls, like I imagine he'll do, he'll get us all killed in an instant.
But, unfortunately, I hear a loud "kaboom".
Great job, Stark.
"We've got a code red on floor 2." A man says.
Two of the men, in this room, leave.
Leaving me, Loki, and the two other guys.
He looks over to me, in pure terror, as one of the men turn on the machine.
But they don't use it yet.
Because, suddenly, the door opens.
But it wasn't an avenger.
It was him. My father.
I didn't even know his actual name. I wish I did, so I didn't have to call him my father anymore.
"Well, well, well. What a lovely surprise." He says, looking at "me."
"You know, when I was informed that you willingly turned yourself in, it was hard to believe! Why did you?"
He couldn't answer. We didn't exactly prepare to speak to him.
"Was it, oh I don't know, because of him?" He says. And as he does, the door flings open, and there stands Bucky.
He was put in these odd looking handcuffs, and being held against his will.
Immediately, some how, he looked at Loki, and then at me. His face, confused.
He somehow always knew when I was actually there.
So, he was probably confused as to why he knew I was here, yet "I" was sitting on that chair.
But then his face shows realization.
Realization that this was a rescue mission.
"Did you come here in attempt to get him?" He asks Loki.
Loki doesn't answer, as he was supposed to.
"Well, if you were," he begins, "You're not getting him. Now I've got both of you!" He laughs.
"I mean, what kind of rescue is this? You can't even save yourself."
I try listening to my ear piece, but nobody's saying anything.
"Hurry." I whisper, as quiet as possible.
"Too bad you won't be able to rescue him. You won't even remember why you're here!"
Oh God.
Oh God, no.
It's like watching in slow motion. The machine slowly connects to his head.
I knew that it usually took a few moments, before it actually worked.
Plus, he'd have to hit a button, which he hadn't pressed yet.
But it was still painful for that thing to connect to your brain.
"In 3..." he begins to countdown.
Maybe the Avengers would be done. Maybe they'd come and find me.
"2..."
Maybe they wouldn't. Maybe I had to do something. I couldn't let him go through that.
"1 and a half..."
Nope. I had to do something.
Even if it meant blowing everything.
"1.."
No, it was like slow motion.
Slowly, I turns visible. And Bucky noticed immediately.
In slow motion, Bucky screamed my name.
And in slow motion, my father turned around, seeing me.
And in slow motion, he turned to face Loki again, who had already turned back into himself.
"What the hell is this!?" He shouts.
And slowly, the button is nearly pressed.
Inches away.
Centimeters.
I couldn't let him.
And just as he hits the button, slowly, I don't know what comes over me.
Loki's screaming, it hurt me. It did.
It made me want to cry for him.
But it also filled me with anger.
I, with the flick of my wrist, throw my father against the wall.
I run up to the man who hit the button, and punch him directly in the face, finishing it off with him being thrown against the wall.
I look over to the man, who held Bucky. Bucky nodded, confirming he was alright.
But the man pulled out a gun from his pocket.
"Stop that machine and he gets a bullet to the head!" The man shouts.
What would I do?
What could I do?
Loki or Bucky?
But just then, I don't have to decide.
Stark comes bursting through the wall to this room, blasting the gun out of his hand.
"I'll get Barnes, now help him!" He shouts, grabbing Bucky.
Quickly, he flies him out of here.
Great!
How would I get him out of this.
This machine only turned off once it was done wiping memories.
Loki looks up at me, tears filling his eyes. I never wanted this to happen.
He begins to try and say something.
But I can't tell what.
"Th... Thor's..h-hammer." He stutters, talking through his own screaming.
His eyes look down at my hand, and back up at me.
So, I reach out my hand, expecting something.
But nothing happened.
Or so I thought.
Suddenly, I hear crashing through the walls.
And just like that, Thor's hammer bursts through the wall, and into my hand.
And quickly, I raise up the hammer, and smash it down onto the machine.
And it smashes. It just completely breaks.
He lets out a sigh of relief, as the machine stops.
His head was definitely ache later, based off experience. Probably a migraine.I unstrap him from the chair, and take the thing off of his head.
"Quick. What's your name?" I ask him, trying to make sure he still remembered.
"Loki.. it's Loki.." He says, his face shocked and filled with terror.
He tries to stand up, but falls into my arms.
"Hey, your good. You're okay." I assure him.
I help him up, holding his arm around my shoulder to keep him standing up.
"Yeah.."
I speak into my ear piece, "Is everybody out of the building?" I ask.
"Yes, now get out of there!" Thor shouts through the ear piece.
I drop the hammer, leaving it for Thor to make come to him.
"Grab your hammer." I speak, telling Thor.
And just like that, the hammer lifts from its place, and crashes through the wall.
So, that's the wall we'd go out of.
"Come on, Loki. You're gonna be alright." I say, helping him out through the broken wall.
But just before we could leave..
"Not so fast!" I hear from behind me.
Oh God, he woke up.
I hear him grab a gun, and he aims it.
"Loki, you have to get yourself out of here." I mutter.
"No.. no I won't leave you." He says, sounding a bit confused and exhausted.
And the machine does that. It tires you out until you can't take it anymore.
"Loki, you have to! Go!"
"No!"
"He'll kill you! Now, go!"
"I'm not leaving you."
"Fine with me, I'll kill both of you." My father says, as he aims it at me first.
Loki's eyes widen, as he looks at my father.
Who was about to pull the trigger.
And here comes the slow motion, again.
Slowly, he pulls the trigger.
Slowly, it comes straight toward my head.
I try to hold onto Loki, keeping him out of the way. He went through too much, he couldn't be shot.
This was on me. I would die here, if I had to.
Loki had to leave, and Bucky had to stay safe from Hydra.
And as I hold on, tightly, to Loki. Something happens.
He moves.
Oh God, no.
No, no, no.
I try to stop him, but just as the bullet comes near me, he turns. He turns so it isn't me who the bullet is aimed at. He turns so the bullet will hit him instead, yet he was still holding onto me.
It felt like slow motion.
Again.
He hugs my face close to his chest, as the bullet finally makes it's way to Loki.
And you'd think, since it was originally aimed at my head, it'd hit his.
But I forgot how tall he was.
And I forgot how terrible the aim was.
It would've hit me somewhere near my heart.
So when it hit Loki, it hit him through the stomach.
And I know when it hit him.
Because he looks at me. He just looks at me and falls.
Filled with anger, I throw my father up against the wall, and throw him again.
So now, he lay unconscious.
And then I look down at Loki, and drop to my knees.
His eyes were still open, and he was still awake.
"No, no, no. Why did you do that?" I ask, trying to put pressure on the bullet wound.
"I..." he stutters, "I had to."
"No, no! I could've taken it, Loki. Please, don't close your eyes." I cry, holding his hand in one of mine, as I apply pressure to the wound with the other.
"Help! Someone, please, HELP!" I shout into the ear piece.
"Why did you do this?!" I ask again, wanting a better answer.
"Be..because I realized... I realized something." He says, looking into my eyes full of tears.
"And what did you realize that made you take the bullet?" I ask, trying to keep him awake.
Suddenly, Thor comes crashing into the room. Following him is Clint.
"I- I lo..." he begins, but stops.
His eyes close.
"No, God, no. LOKI WAKE UP!" I shout.
Thor comes rushing over to his brother.
"What happened?" He asks.
"He took a bullet!" I answer, holding Loki in my arms.
"Is he... breathing?" He asks.
I, hesitantly, check his pulse.
"Yeah. Yeah he's breathing, but I don't know for how long."
"We must get him back to the tower, quickly."
I nod, cradling Loki in my arms, as the rest of the Avengers come rushing in.
Why did he have to do this.
I should've taken it.
I should be the one suffering.
After all, I'm the one who deserved the pain.
Hesitantly, and unsure, as I hold Loki in my arms, I kiss him on the forehead.
"You're gonna live. You have to." I cry.
