I wake up.
What?
I forget where I am, for a split second.
Then I remember.
I had no nightmare last night.
It was 8am...
I felt so well rested.
I turn over a bit to see Peter sleeping next to me.
He helped me.
He helped me sleep.
He helped me to do something that was so simple yet so challenging.
He slowly flutters his eyes open. He forgets where he was too.
He jumps a bit, scared, when he sees he isn't in his own room. He falls off the bed.
"I- I'm up." He mumbles, remembering where he was.
His eyes light up.
"Did you sleep, last night?" He asks.
I nod, sitting up in my bed. He was still on the floor.
"No nightmares?" He asks.
"No nightmares." I smile.
"T-that's cool." He says, half asleep still.
I remember it was a Saturday, so I could stay in my room all day if I wanted to.
Peter looks over at the time.
"I should- well, probably go back through the vents." He laughs.
"Get outta here." I joke.
He jumps up into the vent, but peeks his head down.
"I'll be back! Through the doors, next time."
As soon as he leaves, I get changed into an old t-shirt and a pair of jeans I found in the drawer.
I didn't know who's clothes this was.
But I had to wear something.
I put on the regular black, high top boots I wore, too.
...
Soon, there's a knock on the door.
I open it, only to see Tony.
Shit. What did he want?
I begin to close the door on him, but he sticks his leg through the doorway, keeping it open.
"Listen, kid," he begins, "I don't know if you should stay here longer. You're going to put us in.."
I cut him off.
"Danger?" I assume.
Damnit he hated me.
He stays silent.
"What happened to being able to help me?" I ask.
He sighs.
"You're refusing my help, Adams."
I'm not.
I'm just refusing to talk to him and go to school.
I walk back as he comes into my room, technically his room.
"How are you enjoying it here?" He asks, going off topic.
I don't answer him.
"What's up with you? Why don't you talk, really?"
I shrug.
He wasn't in the mood for this. He wanted an explanation which I wasn't ready to give.
"Theres something wrong with you, Adams." He says, before walking out the door.
"I know." I mutter.
"Oh, so now you want to talk?" He replies.
I roll my eyes.
No, I didn't. I didn't want to talk to him.
He looks back at me before leaving, closing the door.
"Where are you going to put her, Tony? You can't kick her out when she needs our help." I hear Steve say.
Thanks, Steve.
"I don't know and that's none of your business, Rogers. If she wants help she wouldn't refuse it."
"Tony, she's here because we said we'd help her. That's a cry for help right there!"
"Rogers, I don't need you telling me this."
"I think I do need to tell you this. You upset her after dinner last night for crying out loud. She heard everything. Bucky told me so."
"I'm sorry, what does Barnes have to do with this? Last time I checked, he murdered my parents. I want nothing to do with him."
"Tony, you're acting like a kid."
"And your acting a lot like a boss for someone who isn't in charge."
"She's been through a lot, Tony."
"And so have I. Get over with it."
This bitch.
"This doesn't have anything to do with your dad never giving you attention as a child, Tony. Her own father killed her parents and took her to be tortured and tested on. That does a lot to a kid."
He doesn't say anything else, I just hear him walk away.
Soon, I'm sitting in silence again.
They really needed better doors if they didn't want people hearing their conversations.
Especially me.
About five minutes later, there's a knock on the door.
"It's Peter." He says.
"You can come in." I say.
He opens the door, all dressed and ready for the day.
"Come with me." He says.
"Peter, where are we going?"
"You'll see." He smiles.
