"Sarah, please wake up, Sarah." I hear.
I flutter my eyes open.
Peter.
Where were we?
I sit up and look around. We were in an alley. Really?
I lay back down. My neck and my throat burned.
"Oh my god. A-are you okay?"
"I guess," I start, "What happened?"
He looks up, back and forth through the alley.
"I- I think someone tried to kill you." He stutters.
Shit. "Not kill." I mutter.
"What?"
"They want me back."
"Who- oh..." He realizes.
He stays silent for a little while, sitting next to me.
I didn't know what to say.
Neither did he.
"We should probably tell Mr. St-..."
I cut him off.
"No, not him."
He nods.
"What about Mr. Barnes? Mr. Rogers, even?"
I nod. Those were the only people that I could trust.
I knew Bucky and not so much Steve.
But Bucky trusted Steve. He was his friend.
I try to stand up, but my legs shake and I fall back to the ground.
"Fuck." I murmur.
"Here. I- I can help." He says.
I put my arm around his shoulders as he holds me up.
We walk through alleys back to Stark Tower.
I didn't want to be in the open.
...
We make it through the doors of Stark Tower. Nobody was at the front so we rushed up to the elevator.
I was still out of breath, and I still burned in my throat and neck.
Flashback...
I look up from the seat I was forced in.
"You see this?" A guy asks, holding out a chip of some sort.
No, not like a potato chip.
A different type of chip.
"If you ever... and I mean ever... escape, don't cooperate, or anything that disobeys us... we will find you," He says, "We will forcefully put this chip inside of you, forcing a liquid to seep through your veins and slowly start to kill you. First, you'll pass out. Not so bad, right?"
I didn't like this.
"Then, parts of your body will start to burn. Once your whole body feels like it's burning, you will slowly suffocate to death as your lungs fill up with fluid from this chip."
Oh my god.
I look down in my seat.
I could never leave. They'd always find me.
But it didn't sound so bad to die from that thing. I'd rather die.
Honest.
I couldn't do this anymore.
End of flashback...Fuck.
I start to cry, burning even more.
"H-hey it'll be okay.." Peter says, trying to calm me down.
I was going to die.
I shake my head. It wasn't going to be okay.
Nobody knew how to fix me.
I scream as the burning gets more intolerable.
Peter looks over at me, tears starting to well in his eyes.
He was scared, too.
For my life.
He didn't want to see me hurt. Or dead.
The elevator door opens and we stumble out of it.
"HELP!" Peter yells.
Nobody came.
"SOMEBODY HELP HER. PLEASE."
The tears in his eyes were now streaming down his face.
He didn't know what to do.
Suddenly, Bucky and Bruce run through the door.
"Shit." Bucky says, running over to me.
He knew what was happening to me.
They take me into some sort of room.
The pain became even more intolerable than it had before. I scream.
Inside the room, was Tony, Nat, Clint, Thor, and Steve.
"What happened?" Steve asks, watching as I cry in pain.
"They found her." Bucky mutters.
"Who found her?" Tony asks.
Damnit, Stark, are you really that clueless.
"Hydra." He mutters.
"That's not possible." Tony says.
What the actual fuck.
Everybody looks over to Stark, including me.
"What?" Bucky asks him, upset.
"They were all arrested, remember? Or killed?"
"Oh shit, I must've been hit by a ghost then." I say, wincing.
Bucky turns to show the chip to Tony.
"I don't need you showing me anything."
"This... is a chip. It has a liquid inside it. When injected into the skin, she'll pass out, start to burn inside, and fluid will fill inside her lungs. Causing her to die." Bucky yells at him.
"Don't you dare yell at me." Tony starts.
"Tony, do you see her right now? She's dying!" Steve interrupts.
"Fine, we'll take a look at her." Tony gives in, clearly annoyed.
They lay me down on what looks like a table and he starts fiddling with weird technology.
"J.A.R.V.I.S. Take a chest x-ray." He mutters.
Who was J.A.R.V.I.S?
"Yes, sir." Something says.
The pain was terrible. My breathing slowed more than it should.
A weird scanning thing shows up over me.
What kind of technology is that?
"She appears to have fluid filling in her lungs. She is suffering fatal injuries from the inside."
Tony suddenly doesn't look annoyed anymore.
"W-will she be okay?" I hear. Everyone turns around to see Peter standing near the doorway.
"Sure." Tony says, not so calm anymore.
"J.A.R.V.I.S! How do we fix this?" He asks.
"Well, sir, you're going to have to get the fluid out of her lungs. And, first, the chip off of her neck," The technology says, "Theres no other way to get the chip off her neck.. unless you rip it off. There's some sort of button that should've been with this chip.. but I suppose you don't have that."
"Alright, J.A,R.V.I.S. Get something to get the fluid out of her lungs."
"How so?"
"Any way is fine. We just need it out of her lungs."
"Of course, sir."
A needle starts coming toward me.
I flinch. I don't know what was going to be done with the needle.
It stands above me for a bit.
"We need this chip off." Tony says.
Shit. He was going to rip it off.
"This isn't going to hurt..."
"Really?" I ask.
"For me..."
Fuck you Stark.
Bucky and Clint come over to me, holding down my arms.
This was going to hurt, wasn't it?
He starts to pull it off.
The pain is at the most intolerable level.
Nothing ever hurt this much.
"FUCK." I yell, continuing to scream in pain.
"Language.." Steve mutters.
"Rogers?" Nat says.
"Sorry.." He says back.
Tony stops pulling at it.
"It's not coming off." He sighs, putting his hand behind his neck.
Bucky let's go of my arm, heading to where Tony stood just five seconds ago.
"Sarah?" He asks.
I look over to him, still crying and breathing heavy.
He was going to try and pull it out.
I nod.
"Just- do it." I cry.
He pulls out his left arm, starting to pull at the chip.
I didn't want to yell.
I didn't want him to think he was hurting me.
But I couldn't stop it. It hurts so much.
The chip starts to peel from my neck, coming off.
Nothing happens. It's just off.
"J.A.R.V.I.S, the fluid. Get it out of her lungs."
"Sir, it must go in her chest."
He looks over to me.
"Alright." He says.
I don't care. I rip off my shirt, leaving me in a bra.
Nobody else seemed to care, either.
"Do it." I mutter, choking on either tears, or fluid.
The needle comes down toward my chest, pricking it.
I felt the needle suction out the fluid.
It didn't really hurt, it just felt uncomfortable.
...
I start to breathe normally again, as the needle leaves my chest.
I stick my hand over where the needle was, letting it stop bleeding.
I lay, looking at the ceiling lights. Trying to catch my breath.
Everybody sighs of relief.
"She's okay!" Tony exclaims.
No shit , but I was still in pain.
"Let her rest, now." He says, leaving the room.
Bucky and Peter stay in the room.
Peter walks up beside me.
He looked a mess. His face was all blotchy from crying.
He didn't want to see me in pain.
"I'm okay." I whisper.
"Tony's an idiot, sometimes." Bucky whispers back to me.
"Sure, he's a genius and a billionaire, but he doesn't always have common sense." He explains.
"Thank you," I say, "For helping me."
He nods.
"You really scared me, Sarah."
I know. I scared myself.
"Tony is half right though," He begins, "We all thought Hydra had been arrested or killed."
"Th-they hid me. They h-hid themselves." I stutter.
He nods.
"We'll find them." He says.
"No, they'll find me."
