You took in a deep breath, relishing in the cool air, the scent of pine trees and fresh morning dew dancing in the atmosphere.
The first day of summer camp.
You slipped on your shorts and camp t-shirt, securely pinning your name tag to it.
Today was the day hundreds of kids arrived to the yearly camp where you have games, competitions, and other fun activities.
Not only did you enjoy spending time with all the kids, but you enjoyed getting away for a while. Being a camp counselor at the annual summer camp was like a mini vacation to you.

"Hello campers and good morning. How are you feeling today?"
"Good!" The crowd of kids cheered in unison.
"I'm so happy to hear that. First of all, I wanna say welcome to Camp Sobaeksan. I'm Y/n, one of the main camp counselors. I help out with many things such as leading activities and making sure things are running smoothly. This is a three week summer camp, as you all probably know. We have lots of things planned for you all: canoeing, hiking, story time by a campfire, and even competitions with other camps. The camp vs camp competitions will start after the first week and a half of camp. So, you'll have a week and a half of fun activities and then a week and a half of competitions."
"I hear Camp Sobaeksan has a rivalry with that camp across the lake." You heard one of the kids up front mutter.
"Yeah. I was here last year, they're insanely competitive." Another camper chimed in.
You pretended not to hear it, clearing your throat before continuing.
"While there might be rumors out there about any rivalries between camps, I can assure you, it's all in good fun. That's what summer camp is about, right? Fun. Hopefully, by the end of this you'll all have new friends and maybe even have learned a thing or two."
You paced back and forth on the small, wooden stage getting a look at all the fresh-faced campers.
"Since it's day one, we'll start off easy. After you get settled in your cabins, there will be a group cookout. This will give you all a chance to mingle and get acquainted with one another. We'll have music, lots of food, and some small games set up."
There were excited murmurs from the crowd.
"Notice we have four cabins. Cabins one and two are for girls and cabins three and four are for boys. Four of us counselors are assigned to each cabin, what that means is that it's our job to make sure all of you are in your correct cabin. So, when you get settled, we'll come introduce ourselves and then make our way to the cookout. Okay?"
Everyone nodded.
"If any of you need anything, don't hesitate to ask me or one of the other camp counselors." You said, gesturing to the other staff members standing off to the side. "If you get hurt, Nurse Kim will help you. Her cabin is right over there." You pointed before turning back to the crowd of kids. You then clapped your hands, rubbing them together. "Alright. I think that covers everything. You're all free to go choose your cabins now."
And with that, the campers dispersed.
You smiled, letting out a satisfied sigh before walking off the stage along with the other staff members.
