The next morning my first class was defence against the dark arts. "Harry." I called wanting him to walk with me. "Hey Clara." We walked together, "you haven't been around much." I nodded, "I'm here now." He held the door open for me and we took our seats.
"Why is Snape here?" I asked Harry. He shrugged pulling out his books. "Just keep your head down don't give him any reason to take points." I nodded, "I think breathing is enough for him to take points." Harry smiled, "just be your usual loveable self."
"Turn to page 394." Snape ordered. I noticed we were talking about werewolves. Hermione raised her hand, "sir we weren't to be talking about werewolves for weeks." Snape glared at her, "do not interrupt."
I did as Harry said keeping my head down. "Ms. Parkinson, repeat to me what I just said." I sighed angrily, "I'm not sure sir." He glared at me, "5 points from Gryffindor. Pay attention."
Harry gave me a small smile and I just shook my head now writing notes so I wouldn't get caught off guard again.
"I have quidditch this afternoon." Harry whispered. I nodded, "I know, I'll be there." He smiled, "thank you." As soon as class was over I stepped out in the hall to see Fred waiting there for me. "Good afternoon." I raised my eyebrow, "so now your following me?" He shrugged, "wouldn't kill you to hang out with me more often." I laughed, "I'm hanging out with you right now." He nodded, "are you coming to our quidditch game?" I nudged him, "what else would I do?"
I followed him up to the common room and we sat by the fire. "Have things been going better?" I bit my lip, "as good as they can get right now I suppose." Fred nodded, "just give it time Clara, it will all be forgotten." I sighed, "to everyone else maybe but I'll never forget. Every time I close my eyes the first thing I think of is my mum. I don't know why, I know eventually I'll have to get past it but I can't right now. It was all so unexpected." He casually put his arm around me, "I know, I think you're great, unbelievably strong." I smiled, "thanks Fred."
Eventually Fred left to get ready for quidditch and I set off to find Hermione, or someone I could sit with. "Where are you off too?" I spun around smiling when I saw Cedric, "looking for my friend, you have quidditch right?" He nodded, "making my way there now." I smiled, "well good luck." He thanked me and I continued walking.
I decided to simply just meet Hermione in the stands which was exactly where I found her with Ron. "Hi guys." I said sitting down. Neville came and sat on the other side of us. "Look at the dementors." Ron whispered. I looked up, "that's a lot." He nodded, "were there many in Azkaban?" I smiled, "you seem very interested with that place. And yes there's loads, but none ever bothered me." Neville interrupted, "was Sirius as mad as they say he was." I shook my head, "not while I was in there, I don't know what he was like before though." Hermione shushed them, "you really think Clara wants to be talking about this right now. Azkaban is the worst place known to man, you should've never been put there."
Neville sighed, "I'm sorry." I smiled, "it's alright, curiosity is normal." He nodded, "I know what it's like to have no parents you know. I'm really sorry you have too as well." I looked at him, "I'll be fine, just like you." He leaned in, "here's a secret I'm not fine. I think about them loads." I leaned in too, "here's a secret for you, of course I'm not alright. And of course you aren't." He smiled, "at least I didn't have to watch my mother die, I'm sure that was awful." I nodded, "like I said Neville, I'll be fine."
The two teams looked as though they were coming onto the field getting ready. I watched as dark clouds rolled in, and halfway through the game it was getting hard to see the match.
I suddenly got chills, and when I looked up I saw a dementor directly above me. I felt nothing, but cold, and darkness. It was like I was thrown into a pitch black Azkaban. I tried to pull away but it was attached to me. When I closed my eyes I fell back letting myself go, it didn't feel like it was worth fighting. Nothing did.
